How to prevent crime

A training session for the South Miami Citizens Crime Watch will be held Wednesday, May 26 at 7:30 p.m. in the South Miami City Hall. A representative of the South Miami Police Department will discuss types of crimes occurring in the area and how they might be prevented. He will instruct members in home protection, suspect identification and terminology plus communication procedures. All members and prospective members are invited to attend. Crime Watch is a network of concerned citizens groups joined with law enforcement and dedicated to the elimination of crime. Founder of the program, Betty Ann Good, was recently awarded the 1975 Dade County Outstanding Citizens Award for her work with Crime Watch. Earlier this year, the Coral Gables branch came into the news when an alert Crime Watcher tipped local police and it resulted in one of the largest drug hauls in South Florida history — 23 tons of marijuana with a street value of $14 million.
