Paintings of family dominate walls
From Page 17 displayed in a bookshelf along the family area. "I've always loved bells and have been collecting them for years," she said. "The oldest bell is from Colombia and it is 25 years old." The most recent addition to the collection is a miniature replica of the Liberty Bell. Both native Colombians, the couple moved to the United States 20 years ago. Two of the seven children, Lilia and Herman, still live at home. The kitchen, which opens to the living and dining rooms, has wood cabinets lining the walls. A small breakfast nook of modern design is also part of the kitchen area. Juan, the pet parakeet from Colombia, has his own special corner in the kitchen. The three-year-old green and yellow bird walks freely around his corner and occasionally whistles at the guests. One of Diaz Forero's first paintings done in 1939 - a portrait of his mother - decorates the couple's bedroom wall, as do photographs and paintings of their children. A white quilted bedspread with light blue embroidery covers the master bed and contemporary furniture decorates the room. "Painting turns into a habit after a while, a very delicious habit," said Diaz Forero, who in addition to his work teaches painting at West Miami Community school. On either side of the natural wood, contemporary dining room table and china cabinet, are still-lifes and landscapes painted by Diaz Forero.
