CG library gets White House brick from DAR

The Mayaimi Chapter of the Florida State Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution presented the Coral Gables Public Library with a brick from the White House last month. The brick, which bears the seal of the U.S., was removed when the White House was renovated during President Harry Truman's administration. It is mounted on an engraved plaque and will be on display at various times during the year. The presentation was made to Mrs. Jane Vangundy, head librarian, by DAR Florida Regent Mrs. John D. Milton, Mayaimi Chapter Regent Mrs. Gl. Elliot Patterson, and Bicentennial Chairman Mrs. Loyd Kelly.

Lady engineers

The Ladies Auxiliary, Miami Chapter, of the Florida Engineering Society will meet Tuesday, May 16, for a noon covered dish luncheon at the home of Mrs. Ellis O'Neal, 8701 SW 82nd Ct.

Adult programs

Registration is now being accepted for the Senior Adult Summer Program at the Jewish Community Centers of South Florida. The program includes swim instruction, arts and crafts, trips and cultural activities and a Judaic study program. WAC chairman

Norma Little, who lives at 19519 SW 87th Ave., has been appointed publicity chairman of WAC (Women's Army Corps) Veterans Association. Mrs. Little is currently secretary and publicity chairman of the Dr. Perrine Garden Club in South Dade.

Adult seminar

“What Do I Do With Mom and Pop Now That They Are Older?” will be the focus of a special discussion group dealing with problems faced by adult children of senior adult parents. Sponsored by the Jewish Community Centers of South Florida in conjunction with Jewish Children and Family Services, the six-week small group sessions will touch the core of what is becoming a major problem in society — the special relationships developing between adult children and their parents. The seminar will be held in the Aztec Room of the Dadeland Inn beginning Tuesday, May 18 at 8 p.m. Reservations are necessary and can be made by calling Arlene Miller at 264-8000. Enrollment is limited.

Audubon Society

The Tropical Audubon Society will meet Sunday, May 16, at Cocoplum Women's Club, 1375 Sunset Dr., from 1-3 p.m. Guest speaker will be Dr. James Kushlan, researchbiologist for Everglades National Park. He will talk on, “Preserving South Florida's Natural Lands,” and will describe various public lands and analyze their management. Also at the meeting, a presentation of the Annual Conservation Award will be made to Jack Stark superintendent of Everglades National Park. After the meeting, members are invited to come over to “Doc” Thomas' Audubon House (Tropical's new home) for refreshments.
