Palmer graduation exercises at Coco Plum Women's Club

Dr. John W. Maguire, dean of the School of Education at Barry College, will give the graduation address. Commencement exercises for Palmer School's graduating class will be held June 6 at 2 p.m. at the Coco Plum Women's Club in Coral Gables. Melissa Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Jones III of Coral Gables, is class valedictorian. She will attend Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. The graduates of Palmer School this year include: Mark Antonacci, James Bernstein, Joseph Brooke, Daniel Budzinski, Peter Burls, Alfred Childers, Allison Cohen, Jennifer Coval, Allen Dunnigan, Jennifer Dunnigan, Jean Fatoll, Margaret Ferguson, Julianne Flick, Carrie Freedman, Stephanie Gallman, Jill Gilson, Pilar Guzman, Arthur Henson, Andrew Hesson, Helene Hollub, and Michael Jaffe. Also graduating in June are Melissa Jones, Nicholas Karousatos, Miada Lu Bow, Stewart Magenheimer, Beth Magidson, William Marin Martin, Cindy Mitchell, Stephen Moser, Joseph Murray, George Prokos, Barbara Purchell, A. Drew Quentel, Catherine Ray, Carrie Reid, Maribeth Rouseff, Henry Scheuermann, Janet Smith, Barry Staruss, Jayme Sutton, Priscilla Trantham, John Wilson, John Youmans, Heather Ziegler, Kris Ziegler, and Cindi Zielin.

School elections

Coral Park Elementary School will elect the first nine members of its School Advisory Committee on Thursday, June 3 at 7:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria, 12225 SW 97th Ave. During the past school year, Coral Park Elementary has been organizing the adv sory committee and members of the community are urged to attend the election meeting.

Learning techniques

Taking the initiative in new learning techniques, Florida International University will hold a first-of-its-kind conference intitled "Beyond the Ivory Tower: The Southeastern Conference on Work and Learning." The one and a half day conference for educators, policy-makers, students and employers will focus on work as a source of learning. It begins at noon on Thursday, June 3, ends at 5 p.m. on Friday, June 4, and will be held at the Sonesta Beach Hotel and Tennis Club on Key Biscayne.

Art exhibit

The third annual Florida International Student-Faculty Exhibition will open May 30 at the Metropolitan Museum and Art Center at 7867 N. Kendall Dr. and will run through July 1. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The exhibition will be installed by members of a research class in gallery procedures under the direction of James M. Couper, associate professor and exhibition chairman of the Department of Fine Arts. The exhibition, an unjuried show of student and faculty works, is free and open to the public.

Ponce coffee

The Ponce de Leon Junior High School Parent Teacher Association will have an appreciation coffee Friday, June 4 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. in the school's new air conditioned library, 5801 Augusto Ave. The coffee is being given in honor of the 85 Realtors and merchants from Coral Gables, South Miami, Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove who supported Ponce fund raising efforts through contributions to the school's annual auction. As a result of donations, the school was able to air condition the school library.
