Gables ad man a winner

Phil Taylor Gables ad man a winner This week, atop a New York skyscraper at One Dag Hammarskjold Plaza, the creativity of a small Coral Gables advertising and public relations firm is receiving international acclaim for a Florida-produced radio campaign that beat out what the industry calls the Manhattan big boys. Last week, Philip J. Taylor & Associates located at 220 Miracle Mile, received a silver medal - first ever awarded to a Florida firm - at the prestigious "One Show" of the New York Art Directors and Copy Clubs for radio spots written and produced entirely here and narrated by the late Rod Serling. On hand to accept the medal was Phil Taylor. The client is AeroPeru and the theme of the radio campaign was "Mysterious journeys to the land of the last Incas." Taylor, who sits on the Coral Gables Community Development Board, has had his AeroPeru work win 15 major awards in Florida shows this year. It is strongly in the running for Cleo and Andy medals in New York this summer. "Proud as we are of the other awards, we feel most honored the 'One Show' medal," Taylor said. "There were more than 10,000 entries from over the world. From these, 890 works were considered good enough to hang and play in the exhibition. Only 70 medals were given. "We got ours against stiff competition, beating out such giant campaigns as Kodak, Clairol, Japan Airlines and Barneys Men Stores. No other Florida agency's work made it; indeed, there were only two other medal-winners for from the South." Taylor praised Rick Breen, the copy writer who lives in Coral Gables, who was commissioned to write the spots for Serling's famous "Twilight Zone" voice.
