SPINNING SPOKES

This summer, many teen-agers in South Florida will again have the exciting opportunity of cycling with one-hundred other young people for nineteen action packed days in Europe. Spinning Spokes originated seven years ago in the mind of Rev. Thomas Watson of Perrine as an exciting way to challenge the mental, physical, cultural and spiritual elements untouched in youth today. Hundreds of students have responded with enthusiasm every summer since 1970. The Spinning Spokes' trip brings change in every participant's life. A strong sense of community among the bikers is developed in a short time and working together as a team becomes a necessity. It may take a couple of days to get the "tender-foot" bikers into the swing of things, but breaking camp, sightseeing and covering forty miles a day successfully falls into a rhythmic pattern which everyone feels a part of. The job of camping, feeding and biking one hundred students for nineteen days has become an organized science for the Watson family and the Spinning Spokes staff. Their organization and know how, come from years of experience. Spinning Spokes' equipment used to make the trip a success includes: two cook wagons, twenty tents, one-hundred twenty tents, one-hundred twenty ten-speed bikes and three other vans carrying spare bike parts, luggage and assisting with traffic and road problems along the way. This year, as always, every bike will fly an American flag high over the handle bars in respect and reverence to our great country. The Europeans have always responded with enthusiasm to the flags, often asking the bikers if they could please have one as a souvenir. This colorful group of hearty bikers, with cheerful faces and waving hands, always leave a trail of admiration and respect behind them.

He is liked for his hair, nose, voice, kindness, and because he is funny! Obviously, the idea is that there is something to like in everyone if you will look for it.
