University Court He Watches TV, Then Has Stickup
An unidentified man sat around and watched TV in the University Court motel lobby for about an hour Sunday night before he got up and pulled an $1,100 holdup. Capt. E. H. McGough, of the Coral Gables police, said the slender built, short man in his early 20's draped a coat around his arm and told switchboard operator Linda Wimmer to hand over the money. The victim said she never saw a gun, but that the robber said he had one under the coat. The gunman fled in some undetermined manner after the 10:40 p.m. theft.
Another Le Jeune Victim: Downtown Traffic Flow
If traffic seems fouled up in downtown Coral Gables - it is. The City's master control has been knocked out by all the construction on Le Jeune Road, according to City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. This has caused the radar counter on Le Jeune Road to become inoperative and other lights to get out of synchronization. "There'll be no relief until Le Jeune Road is fixed," Robinson said. A cable, which is broken and short-circuits when it gets wet, has added to the problem. It is being replaced, Robinson said.
Party Differences Found In Welfare, Says Holland
Who's right - conservatives or liberals? It's up to the people to decide, Sen. Spessard Holland told members of the Kiwanis Club at their Tuesday luncheon meeting. "Some of us who are called conservatives would have been called wild-eyed liberals years ago," said Holland. Aligning himself with the conservatives, Florida's senior senator and Democrat, said he did not question the patriotism of liberals in Congress. Each wing attempts to solve the country's problems along the lines of its philosophy, said Florida's former governor. One thing both conservatives and liberals agreed upon in the first session of the 87th Congress, Holland said, was the field of national defense and the right to survive. "It is important to point out the unity among the division," the legislator said. The calling up of reservists, extending military service, and increasing the draft have worked serious hardships on many persons, including some who have already served their country before, Holland said. "I'm not here to talk party politics," said Holland at one point, "What's in a name anyhow?" The main differences in Congress, he said, come from the clash over welfare issues. Holland said that the main difference between this and other Congresses has been that the President has signed legislation that had previously been vetoed by Eisenhower. He predicted some tough fights in the next session of Congress on these issues.
Manned Lot Prices Stay As Is--Now
There will be no change in the manned parking lot until after the completion of Le Jeune Road, the City Commission indicated Tuesday. Commissioners approved the erection of larger signs at entrances to the lot on Salzedo Street and Andalusia Avenue, but agreed to leave rates at 10 cents for the first hour, 10 cents for the second hour and five cents for each additional hour. The Commission said they wished to gain more experience after Le Jeune is widened to determine its effect on usage.
New Publix On S. Dixie
Publix Super Markets is planning still another market in the area - this one on South Dixie Highway at SW 117th St. Another has been approved at the Old Youth Center site of Le Jeune Road in downtown Coral Gables and one is being planned off South Dixie Highway near Howard Johnson's, also in the Gables. Architect for the newest store is Charles N. Johnson, of Lakeland. O. K. Houstoun Jr., of Coral Gables, is associated architect.

Kress Wing Is Ready
Two days of ceremonies will herald the opening next week of the Kress Wing at the Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery, University of Miami, new permanent home for an impressive collection of works provided for the community by the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. Gallery Director C. Clay Aldridge announced the 41 paintings and four sculptures will be on permanent exhibition in the new wing beginning Thursday, Nov. 16, one day after the formal dedication.
Traffic Halts Saturday For Salute to Dead
In a proclamation issued by Mayor Robert L. Searle, citizens are asked to observe Saturday as Veterans Day by displaying the national colors and appropriately decorating their homes and places of business. On that day, American Legion Post No. 98 has arranged to place buglers at principal intersections in the Coral Gables central business district. At 11 a.m. taps will be sounded. All vehicular and pedestrian traffic is requested by the Mayor to halt during the bugle call. The merchants of the community are reminded by the Retail Merchants Division of the Chamber of Commerce that special arrangements should be made for displaying the flag by places of business which will be closed in observance of the day. "Displaying the colors on a holiday is often a matter of the Legislative Action Committee of the merchants group, "but the inconvenience is petty indeed when measured against the sacrifices which the day is set aside to commemorate."
