ABBOTT BRIGGS PANKEY SMITH Harold Abbott, 511 Almeria Ave., received the Chartered Life Underwriters title at the recent annual dinner of the Miami Chapter. Abbott, head of Abbott Associates, was one of a group of life and health insurance agents receiving the CLU title after passing the college's professional examinations. ★ ★ ★ Miss Dee Dee Briggs, 1534 Mantua Ave.; Miss Marilyn Smith, 4419 University Dr.; and Miss Anne Porter Pankey, 5343 Orduna Dr., are Gables students attending Queens College, Charlotte, N.C., as freshmen. ★ ★ ★ We've a change of address from Mrs. Andrew J.B. Adams, dated High Hampton at Cashiers, N.C. She says they left for the Gables on the week end and "have certainly enjoyed having the Times with us here this summer." ★ ★ ★ Alan L. Sockloff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max A. Sockloff, 411 Malaga Ave., was elected president of Alpha Phi Omega (service) fraternity at Emory University, Atlanta. ★ ★ ★ It's cold on the top of Mt. Vesuvius, says Mrs. Jesse Gleason, 2716 Granada Blvd., who climbed the historic mountain by chair lift on her sixth trip to Italy. It was also hot on the inside of Vesuvius; she found out via the same way. Mrs. Gleason visited her former high school friend, Miss Elena Buonpane in Naples. ★ ★ ★ Gregor Piatigorsky, violincellist, will be the guest artist Sunday and Monday evening at concerts with the University of Miami Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra is presenting its second subscription concert, Sunday at the Miami Beach Auditorium and Monday at Dade County Auditorium. ★ ★ ★ Two June graduates of Coral Gables High School pledged Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority at the University of Maryland, College Park, Md. They are Joan Temchin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Temchin, 4850 Biltmore Dr.; and Libby Toback, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Toback, 5311 Maggiore St. ★ ★ ★ Susan Taylor, a junior student at Elmira College, Elmira, N.Y., has been elected president of Perry Residence Hall at Elmira, a liberal arts college for women. Susan is the daughter of Mrs. Dorothy Taylor Walters, 3270 Riviera Dr. ★ ★ ★ Democratic Women's Club of Dade County members will honor their president, Mrs. J. Fritz Gordon, 1706 Country Club Prado at a coffee today, (Thursday) at the Miami Springs Country Club. ★ ★ ★ Boy Scout Troop 20, sponsored by Granada Presbyterian Church, is looking for a new Scoutmaster. Royce Howe is having to give up the job due to business duties. Anyone interested is asked to contact the church office, 950 University Dr., HI 4-8435. ★ ★ ★ The Blood Bank of Dade County has opened a new branch at 5946 SW 73rd St., South Miami. Hours are 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and on Saturday from 9 until 3 o'clock. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. Robin Werner, a graduate student in the Drama Department at the UM, will direct Arthur Miller's American drama, "A View from the Bridge," which will be given Nov. 8-11, at the Ring Theatre as part of its newly instituted graduate student directing program. Country Club. Title of the show The Coral Gables Junior comes from the fact that the Woman's Club will welcome its new members passed their o- 21 new members at the club's batianal period. Mrs. Herman "Birds of a Feather" fashion Cooke Jr., 1519 Trevino Ave., show scheduled for noon is the show's coordinator and Wednesday at the Riviera commentator.
