OUR GAL WAS THERE Breezy Bazaar Blows Presbyterians Cash

By HELEN REYNOLDS Times Society Editor Women love bargains, so mention a church fair and they flock as they did Thursday to the annual event of the Women's Association of the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables. The new, modernisticaly-designed church stands at the same spot in the business area that the former church, built in 1926, stood. That is in the business area of Coral Way and Alhambra Cir., at 121 Alhambra Plaza. These women were prepared. They had all the "props" to show their wares, and plenty of room to store same for next year's sale. They report they served 247 spaghetti dinners at supper time, and will clear some $2,000 on sales. Anything left goes to the charities. We chatted with Camcie (Mrs. C. H.) Goodloe, 1100 Alhambra Cir., the 1950-51 president of the association. Also there was Mrs. Vance "DID YOU HEAR that this bazaar is just about the greatest?" The shadows on the sign belong to (left) Sally, 8, and Cindy Stoltz, 9, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Stoltz Jr., 925 Osorio Ave. V. Wilson, 5563 SW 6th St., chairman of the bazaar. It was breezy in the big room. Camcie's black and white polka dot silk dress with full skirt kept billowing. Mrs. Wilson said someone had donated to the sale a contraption with weights to be worn underneath a skirt to keep it in place. "How about black and blue spots on the legs from flying weights?" one of us said. Camcie came back with, "Just use clothes pins; you can get tiny ones in color to match your dress, and they won't show." Mrs. M. Wilkinson, 817 Almeria Ave., and Mrs. Robert P. Foreman, 4107 University Dr., were minding the "Curious Junque" booth. Mrs. Wilkinson told about visiting her daughter and family, the J. M. O'Briens in their home in Glasgow, Scotland, this summer. Their three girls are Susan, 12, Sara Ann, 8 and Mary, 5. Mrs. I. W. England, 335 Menores Ave., who is in a wheel chair due to a broken hip suffered three years ago, was as peppy as ever. She is co-chairman of Circle 8. She has been a resident (formerly winter visitor) for many years. We chatted a moment with Mrs. Nicholas Hodson of Moss Ranch Rd., who yelled, "Hello, I'm late," as she swept by. THIS LADY was at the bazaar and bought a plant last Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church of Coral Gables. She's Mrs. Charles I. Brooks, 2272 SW 11th Ter. (Times photos by Raymond Lang)
