Deaths in the Gables

Harold Lamm, Pan Am Pilot

Services for Harold A. Lamm, 44, a 20 year-pilot for Pan American Airways who died Friday, were held Saturday at Lithgow-Wilhelm South Miami Center Saturday. Lamm, who held several airline records, lived at 7707 Ponce de Leon Blvd. He came here 12 years ago from New York and was a member of the Air Line Pilots-Association and the Riviera Presbyterian Church. Surviving are his wife, Dorothy T.; three sons, Harold A William C. and Robert; a daughter, Doree; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Lamm, all of the Miami area. HAROLD LAMM

Dr. Sam Mosley, Staff President At Doctors' Here

Dr. Sam Mosley, president of the medical staff at Doctors' Hospital, was buried Saturday following services at Van Orsdel's Coral Gables Chapel. He was 54. The surgeon died Thursday while playing golf at the Riviera Country Club. Dr. Mosley born in Montgomery, Ala., came here 30 years ago. He lived at 640 San Lorenzo Dr. An active civic leader, Dr. Mosley interned at Jackson Memorial Hospital after graduation from Emory University Medical School in 1932. He was a member of the Coral Gables Rotary Club, the Coral Gables Methodist Church, the Riviera Country Club, Beach Colony Club and the Century Club. Dr. Mosley, who was president of the Florida Proctology Society, was an Army captain in World War II. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth; a son Robert S. Jr.; and a daughter, Janet E., all of Coral Gables; and three brothers.

Gonzalo Garcia, [TEXT LOST], Died Sunday

Services for retired Cuban Army colonel, Gonzalo R. Garcia, 75, 1330 Obispo Ave., were held Tuesday following his death Sunday. A requiem mass for Col. Garcia was said at the Church of the Little Flower Tuesday morning. Col. Garcia came here 10 years ago from Havana. Surviving are his wife, Maria; five sons, Gonzalo, Gonzalo R. Jr., Guillermo Garcia and Manuel and Fernando Vidal; three daughters, Mrs. Orselina Nunez, Mrs. Zillia Perez and Miss Delia Garcia, all of the Miami area.

Henry R. Chase, 75, First Fireman

Miami's first paid fireman and a Coral Gables resident, Henry R. Chase, was buried Saturday following services at Philbrick Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic services followed at Woodlawn cemetery. Fire Chief Chase, who died Thursday, was 75 years old. He and Mrs. Chase lived at 922 Wallace St. A native of Portland, Me., he came to the Miami area in 1896 to recuperate from tuberculosis. At 18 he became the City of Miami's first paid fireman for $45 a month. He was named fire chief in 1909 and began building a modern fire department. The Miami Fire Department was the first to be equipped with two-way radios, the first to order gas masks for its firemen and one of the first to use fog equipment and the first to use "wet" water chemical trucks. Mr. Chase was elected president of the International Firefighters Association in recognition of his leadership in the field. But the New Englander was a battler in politics and often fought off what he considered interference with the department and efforts to oust him. He retired in 1953 when he felt ready and that the department was in good hands. Mr. Chase's first wife died in 1950 after 44 years of marriage. He would have celebrated his 10th wedding anniversary with his second on Nov. 16. Other survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Regina Larking and Miss Laurie Chase, of Miami, and Mrs. Dorothy Turner, of Homestead.

Antone Sasseen, Here 20 Years

Services for Antone Sasseen, 64, 2500 Alhambra Cir., were held at the Church of the Little Flower Monday. Mr. Sasseen, who died Friday, was a dress store manager. He came here from Daytona 20 years ago. He is survived by his wife, Nora; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Mallouk Jr.; a sister, Mrs. James J. Sraeel, and three grandchildren, all of the Miami area.

Granada Elects Men

New elders and deacons at Granada Presbyterian Church, were elected at the last two Sunday services. Elders elected are Maurice W. Hart Jr., 714 Anastasia Ave.; George M. Kimmel, 5121 Granada Blvd., W. S. McLeod Jr., 1233 Alegriano Ave.; Dr. Frederick C. Meadows, 5663 Michaelangelo St. Newly-elected deacons are Dale G. Free Dance For Youth On Nov. 18

Youth of the area will be honored by the Coral Gables Optimist Club Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Youth Center in observance of "Youth Appreciation Week." The dance is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. and last until 11 p.m. Coats and ties must be worn by the boys. The dance is free to all youths of Coral Gables and the Southwest Dade area.
