Mason Tours India For Travel Details
'Taj Mahal has been called 'a dream in marble, designed by Titans and finished by jewelers'. There are buildings in India, grander in conception and more elaborate in execution than the Taj, yet there is something about it - a sort of mysterious fascination and lyrical beauty - which is perhaps unequalled by any building in the world. It has been aptly described as a poem in stone," Bill Mason declared. Mason of Travel Inc. is presently touring renowned Indian cities, to stimulate Florida interests in that country. "By exchanging ideas with the Indian people I add to my knowledge of the travel industry," was Mason's reply when asked about the purpose of his trip. "This enables me to better serve my customers with advice in places to see, finer accommodations, and better means of transportation." The tour will include a motor-launch trip to the famous Elephanta Caves; a tour of Maharajha's Palace in the "Garden City" of Mysore; a ride down the Ganges at Benares and Taj Mahal by moonlight. Mason will be taken on an off beaten track to the ancient cities of South India, Belur & Halebid, Mahabalipuram and Conjeevaram. Indian-Accommodations? "Many Americans don't realize that India has many fine hotels and tourist excursions," Bill said. "About 15 miles to the north of Bombay is Juhu, the palm-fringed natural beach ideal for bathing. Juhu has good hotels, while shacks and villas along the beach can also be rented. "Some six miles south-east of Bombay, on a small island decked with tropical vegetation are the famous cave temples of Elephanta dating back to the 8th century. Five in all, they contain huge sculptures and panels in relief. The most striking of the images is the Trimurti, a nineteen feet high three-headed bust hewn from a single rock representing the triple aspect of the Hindu Divinity. "These tours naturally have been well planned to assure maximum comfort and safety." Fatehpur Sikri "No visitor should leave India without seeing the ruins of Fatehpur - a new capital built by Akbar." Reared with infinite thought and adorned with all the taste and art of the age, this city has been abandoned after 14 years for lack of adequate water supply. It however still exists - with its splendid palaces its magnificent mosque, its carvings and paintings - 'a silent witness of a vanquished dream' Akbars Red City stands today in the condition in which he left it . . . a capital marked by something of genuine Hindu vigour and wealth of imagination. Arts And Crafts India has preserved some of its traditional handicrafts - carving in marble and stone, silk fabrics, embroidery, carpet-weaving and leather work. The art is of such precision that even a microscope fails to reveal a joint in a rose composed of sixty petals. THE TAJ MAHAL
