San Amaro
O group of San Amaro Drive residents has asked the City Commission to obtain a traffic light at San Amaro and Miller Drives. Fifteen persons living in the area petitioned the Commission for the light. The request is to be passed on to Metro for study.
Ten Lots Approved On Parking
Ten lots on the south side of Avenue Majorca and two more on Avenue Navarre were approved last week for off street parking and loading and unloading zones for Grand Union market on Ponce de Leon Boulevard. The City Commission approved the request after it had been before the Zoning Board, met with no objections and was similarly approved. Attorney Paul H. Brinson represented Grand Union in its quest to get special use permit in an apartment area. The lots were purchased by Grand Union from Mrs. Elzear Cyr, who owned lots 11 through 18 in Block 10, Section K, and from George E. Milne, owner of Lots 19, 20, 29 and 30.
They Say Stop Helping Communists
A grass roots movement against the sale of military weapons or training of personnel for Communist countries by the United States took hold in Coral Gables last week. The Property Home Owners Association, led by president Mrs. Enoch Erickson, voted to back the National Indignation Convention called at Miami Beach Conventional Hall Nov. 14. "This is a very serious matter," said Mrs. Erickson, of 426 Sarto Ave. "I believe very strongly that the only thing that'll save this country," she said, "is the grass roots." What got the movement going was the training in Texas of Yugoslav pilots wearing Communist insignia. Later the trainees were issued American uniforms, and this intensified the dispute. The group is also protesting the sale of jet fighter aircraft to Yugoslavia.
Our Hungry Manager
Complaints about litterbugging in Coral Gables drew some emphatic answers from City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr., last week. The question came up at one of last week's meeting whether trash was covered under certain sections of the City's ordinance on garbage collection. "If it's trash I'll call it garbage," said Robinson dogmatically. After the uproar had died down, Robinson again drew laughs when he said, "If it isn't covered, I'll eat it." Robinson felt confident that all aspects of litterbugging are covered.
COKE THEFT
Approximately 100 empty Coco Cola cases were reported stolen from the company's property in the 100 block of Ruiz Avenue last week.
