And the Lady Loved the Cop!
"He was the most courteous and polite policeman I've ever met." Cops are not noted for their gentility, and when someone says something like that about them, it must be news. Mrs. Carl I. Carlson, 337 Camilo Ave., had it to say about Officer Lewis W. Frederick. She came by The Times office last week. It all stemmed from delivery to the Carlson home of a therepeutic chair from a California manufacturer. The Carlsons, well along in years and the victims of arthritis and rheumatism had difficulty with the truck driver who delivered the chair when he refused to let them open it before accepting delivery. Having had to return one of the $250 chairs to the firm because it had been damaged in delivery, Mrs. Carlson said they were eager to receive one in good condition after the long delay. But the driver refused and called the cops to get his money. Frederick arrived to settle the dispute. He got the couple to agree to pay the driver and volunteered to witness the opening of the box. As a matter of fact—he opened it for them. Luckily, the chair was in perfect condition this time. And everyone lived happily ever after, thanks to Officer Frederick.

Christ's Life Revealed In New Book
"The Essene Christ," by Coral Gables author, architect and artist, Dr. Upton Clary Ewing, will be of special interest to all readers who have wondered about the silent years of Our Lord, the years between the ages of 12 and 30. After many years of study and research and with the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls, written by the Essenes, Dr. Ewing has given us a theory to consider. According to Josephus, there were but three sects among the Jews. They were the Pharisees, the Sadducees and the Essenes. Dr. Ewing points out that Jesus was neither a Pharisee nor a Sadducee. The Essenes are not mentioned in scripture, but Jesus, Dr. Ewing suggests, could have spent the silent years with the Essenes. Dr. Ewing points out the influence of the Essenes on the ministry of Jesus and of John the Baptist. The book is divided into four parts. Part two contains Dr. Ewing's gospel, "The Covenant Of Love." "The Essene Christ," which has received the M.R.L. Freshel Award for its contributions to the ethics, the morals and the humane education of mankind, is available at Coral Gables Public Library.—HELEN D. O'NEILL.
