Local Firm Stock Sale Proves a 'Best Seller'

Barry-Martin Pharmaceuticals Inc., manufacturer with facilities in Chicago but headquarters here, has successfully sold its first stock to the public. The issue was for $280,000 and was subscribed in less than 48 hours, according to Milton Russinof, president. The firm has been in business here since 1951 and is located at 4621 Ponce de Leon Blvd. Russinof said he chose this city because of the "home-like atmosphere" and because of the University of Miami where his son is now a student. Barry-Martin manufactures pharmaceuticals and vitamins for retail as well as industrial and institutional distribution.

Meter Case Being Studied

The City Commission is still reviewing the case of the two meter checkers fired in March 1961 for altering parking tickets. Pruitt and Pruitt, attorneys for Shirley Searle and Norweida Barrow have appealed the firing, upheld by the Trial Board in Sept. 1961. The two women claimed that they were forced into changing times on parking tickets because of a quota system. Long transcripts of the testimony given before the Trial Board have been presented to the City Commission.
