Publix’s Ready To Start Work

THIS workman put the first lumber on the Publix Market site this week, across from the A & P. Occupancy’s due July 1. Construction on the first of two Publix Supermarkets planned for Coral Gables began Tuesday on the old Youth Center property bounded by Le Jeune Road and Salzedo Street. Cost of the store, a 200-car parking lot and a one-story office building, which will also be built, will be $376,750. This does not include land. The store is expected to open in just under five months, (around July 1), said Sam Wills, an estimator for Kovens Construction Co., who is putting up the structure. Publix will be at the corner of Salzedo Street and Valencia Avenue. It will face Le Jeune Road. The building will be 154 feet wide, 182 feet long. The rental building, 75 feet wide by 180 feet long, will have seven units and will possibly contain a restaurant. It will face Andalusia Avenue. The property is owned by Valencia Center, Inc., which is, in turn, owned by James Sottile. O. K. Houstoun is associate architect for Publix which has its office in Lakeland. The second store is to be built behind the Howard Johnson’s Restaurant on South Dixie Highway later this year.

Levitt Moves To New Offices

Ronald Levitt Associates, public relations consultants, has moved from Miami to new and larger offices at 2903 Salzedo Ave. The firm specializes in public relations and publicity for real estate and shopping center developments, business, industry and corporate consultation. Levitt is a former United Press staff correspondent in Florida. He lives at 7890 SW 17th St.
