Gablegrams

by helen reynolds society editor It went off as planned, the annual election of officers for the Coral Gables Woman's Club, Monday, the 19th. However, the afternoon program had a couple of hitches. Seems Judge Frank Dowling of the County Court couldn't be there as the guest speaker. He was to talk on "Trial of Christ," a fitting Lenten subject. However, alert Mrs. John H. Worley, president, brought the pastor of the newly-forming Southwest Congregational Church, the Rev. Robert A. Ingraham, who spoke on the "Betrayal of Christ by Simon Peter." Incidentally, this new congregation is meeting in the Southwest High School until they can build. The new pastor, a young man, is from Connecticut. Mrs. Worley is serving her second term-year as president. Mrs. Lloyd Rees, 1418 Cecelia Ave., is first vice president; Mrs. Gene Gabriel, 756 Malaga Ave., second vice president; Mrs. C. W. Dabney 1238 Anastasia Ave., recording secretary; Mrs. S. A. Danasyear, 646 Majorca Ave. corresponding secretary; Mrs. Franklin Evans, 4305 Toledo St., financial secretary. First, second and third directors are Mrs. Louis Stajdel, 5300 SW 7th St.; Mrs. W. W. Wynne, 6300 Castaneda St.; and Mrs. Stanley P. Fosgate, 4204 San Amaro Dr. Tea was served at a long table in the club's annex with plenty of cake and goodies and members chattered about every thing, including how to lose weight. Said first vice president, Mrs. Rees: "You know, I go home in the late afternoon, after an affair like this, then have to cook a big dinner for my husband who comes home starved." There also was Claudia (Mrs. Wade L.) Street, 1024 Alhambra Cir., a voice soloist and member who told of entertaining the choir of the First Presbyterian Church of Miami at a buffet supper on St. Patrick's Day. There were 39 guests including, Warner Hardman, the church organist, and Aileen Edgeworth, a contralto, who sang. It was Aileen's birthday and Claudia had a surprise, a large birthday cake. Mrs. Adeline F. Walker, 3624 Ponce de Leon Blvd., knows all about our native coconuts, proper time for picking, how to open them and how to dry them in the sun, never in an oven. She knows how to grate the succulent white meat of the palm nut and how to decorate a cake of her own making with icing made of the beaten whites of eggs, milk and cooked to the "just so" consistency for spreading then sprinkled with the grated coconut. She did just that when her daughter, and family, the Glen Gierharts and their two children, Gretchen and Glenn, of Indianapolis, arrived for two weeks in February. Now they are back for a second vacation, arriving yesterday. And do you know what grandmother Walker said? "The kids began clamoring for a coconut cake."

Do You Have "Equity Money" in Your Home for Remodeling and Improvements?

The "equity" in your home is the difference between its present market value and the remaining balance of your mortgage. Thus, if your home has increased in value, or if you have substantially reduced the original mortgage, chances are that you can take advantage of the equity for remodeling, enlarging or improving your home through refinancing your present mortgage. In many cases monthly payments can remain the same . . . in any event, they will be lower than your present payments plus a separate loan. Regardless of who holds your mortgage now, discuss your plans and possible methods of refinancing with a Mortgage Loan Representative at any Coral Gables Federal office.
