Mrs. Harting Wins Play At Riviera

Women's Golf Association at the Riviera Country Club Tuesday played a non-contestant low net tournament in classes. Mrs. Billie Harting won in Class A with a net 72. Mrs. Swenson Woodworth was second with a net 75. In Class B, Mrs. John E. McKinley won with a net 77; Mrs. F. A. Voght was second with 79. In Class C, Mrs. Ben Costello won with a net 73. Mrs. Phil Laurence was second with 76. For the first time in the history of the Riviera Women's Golf Association, five women won the golf ball prize offered any player making a deuce on a par three hole. The five winners: Mrs. Harting, Mrs. Karl Blohm, Mrs. Woodward, Mrs. Robin McGlohn and Mrs. Harry W. Hartshorn.

Mrs. Stanley Burke Wins Second Half Of Cup Play

(Picture on Page 6) Women's Golf Association at the Coral Gables Country Club played the second 18 holes of the President's Club 36 hole low net tournament Friday. Mrs. Stanley Burke was winner with 138. Mrs. E. W. Kasper was second, with 141; Mrs. Leland Lee, third with 142; Mrs. Robert Marshall, fourth with 143; and Mrs. Howard McClain fifth with 147. Non - contestants played a nine hole low net for the field tournament and winner was Mrs. J. B. Mac Murray with a 34 1/2. Second was Mrs. Rollo Budde, with a 35 and third was Mrs. Vincent Corso with a 36.

CONTEST TONIGHT

The Coral Gables Optimist Club's annual oratorical contest will be held tonight (Thursday) at the Airliner Motel. Judges for the contest, scheduled to begin at 7:15 p.m. are Vice Mayor Joe Murphy, Circuit Judge Hal P. Dekle and Murray Shear, local attorney and former national debate champion.

Miss Stormont, Burley Set June Rites

A South Miami girl, Miss Janet Catherine Stormont, winner of the Bowman Foster Ashe four year full-tuition scholarship at the University of Miami, is to be married. Her parents, the Rev. James C. Stormont and Mrs. Stormont, 7340 SW 63rd Ave., are announcing her engagement to William Wade Burley. He is the son of Marvin M. Burley of Spartanburg, S.C., and the late Mrs. Burley. The wedding will take place June 2. After her graduation with a BS in biology at the UM in 1961, Miss Stormont received a Ford Foundation scholarship at the University of North Carolina Graduate School where she plans to get her masters in education in August. At the UM she was president of Nu Kappa Tau, highest senior women's leadership and scholastic honorary. Her fiance graduated from Spartanburg High School and from Wofford College in 1956 with a BA in psychology and sociology. He was commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army's military intelligence for six months duty and is a first lieutenant in the US Army Reserves. A director of Dramatics and Speech at Spartanburg High School from 1956 to 1959, he received his master of education degree in guidance and psychology at the University of North Carolina in 1960. He is Director of Student Counseling and assistant of professor education at Davidson College, Davidson, N.C., completing his second year there. He is also studying for his Doctor of Philosophy degree at the University of North Carolina. The parents of the bride-elect moved to South Miami four years ago, after her father had completed 22 years as pastor in Pennsylvania, of the United Presbyterian Church of North America. He is now teaching chemistry in the Palmetto Senior High School. Her mother teaches Latin and journalism in Ponce de Leon Junior High School. MISS STORMONT
