Cat Time; Catch Him, Place Call
It's about that time of the year when cats turn to amorous pursuits, accompanied by feline equivalents of serenading. While this may prove satisfying to cats who don't seem to mind losing sleep at this time, loss of slumber by humans also causes Joe Mantinan's phone to ring. Mantinan is City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr.'s trouble shooter and complaint card puncher. His solution: Catch the cats and hold them for the Humane Society. The society has cat traps they'll loan you if you're not particularly adept at this sort of thing, he said, and they'll haul them away. "We don't pick up cats," said Joe, who thinks cats are for the birds. One woman on Salamanca Avenue complained about more than two dozen cats entertaining her and her tenants and neighbors every night in recent days. How do you catch that many cats? Feed them, said Mantinan.
