Out of Piggy Banks, Choir Robe Money

Twenty-two children of St. James Lutheran Church Junior Choir have been donating their piggy bank funds in order to buy themselves new choir robes. The children ages 7 to 13, have collected $40 and the congregation will chip in additional funds. "They have been wearing white surplus robes which are older than some of the children," chuckled Miss Ernestine Martin who is the Christian Day School teacher. "We hope we will have the robes shortly after Easter," Miss Martin said. The rules for the choir are strict. They must memorize all the music and be faithful to Sunday school and church. The ability to sing is not necessarily a prerequisite. "The Lord said, 'Make a joyful noise,' and we train their voices." Members of the choir are Joan Damien, Robert Ackerman, Kathy Andregg, Amy and Ann Cunningham, Tina Davis, Judy and Terry Dowda, James and Timothy Hively, Corinne Houlis, Susan Kriedt, Barbara Lattman, Deborah Nustad, Carr Ritchie, Christine Skow, Christine Wenninger, Judy Anderson, Lynn Lowen, Linda Reuter, Kay Kemmerer and Beth Church.

Coral Gables may have a law library if the trustees of the Dade County Law Library give the nod to a request by our bar association. The issue hinges on whether provision can be made to maintain the library with the present monies set aside for the purpose. By law, $4 of every $17.50 filing fee (paid when a suit is filed) goes to supporting the law libraries. "There are three or four hundred attornies in the Gables area who could use the facilities," said Thomas Davison III, outgoing bar president. If the necessary appropriation can be made, the library will be contained in the new Gables Library to be constructed behind city hall.
