"Hero's Last Stand" is the result of many hours of thought and labor. Building from a certain abstract figure, Hillson departs into mosaic effects of broken color and divided line. Eye-like images emerge from his blue and reds. Patterns of crisscrossing lines provide a monopoly of interplay. Then as if he believes painting must be fun, his lines become an arena for symbols of Tic-Tac-Toe, X's and O's. "Seven Ages of Man" is a sample of decorative shapes that form Hillson's idea of a life-to-death theme. Upon a white background, his colorful oranges, yellows, and darks advance to the surface. Hillson's show is significant in the fact that his art combines memories of the past, Miro and Klee, experiments of today, subject invention and most important, hard work. And while I'm feeling so good let me compliment Granville Fisher on his sanity-code for the sensible pricing of art.
