Rader's Finally Out With A Report

The long-awaited Rader and Associates report finally has been published — approximately nine months after being ordered. City Commissioners immediately laid the groundwork for a series of public meetings. Details of the preliminary report, which differs only in slight detail, were reported in the April 26 Times. Additional details reveal that a strip of two-story apartments have been recommended one-half block east of Segovia Street between University Court and Mendoza Avenue in area of single-family homes. The report recommends also that the southern area of Coral Gables be allocated into 90 percent single family residences; 10 percent multi-family dwellings and that at least 26 acres be set aside for a municipal club and marina. City Hall reports that the proposal to create a civic center by closing off Biltmore Way and uniting Merrick Park with the City Hall tract produced the most negative reaction following publication of the preliminary report. There has been little reaction to the recommendation for nine-story buildings in the downtown area, six-story apartments around this core, and four-story apartments tapering off to 2 stories & SF.

Know Your Man

Coral Gables City employes having contacts with the public will wear name tags to identify them. The new tags stem from the inability of residents to identify City employes in relating information to the City Commission. Police will wear special metal tags for which they will pay extra.

Gables Suspends Employe Following Police Arrest

A Coral Gables city employe has been suspended by City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. in the aftermath of his arrest Sunday by Miami police near the home of their undercover man who spied on a reported hate bombing group. Hulet L. McBride, a 36-year-old waste truck driver, who lives at 40 NE 162nd St., is out after posting $625 bond on charges of resisting arrest, assault and battery, reckless driving and destroying county property. McBride was arrested by Metro police near the home of Stefan Plumacher, a Miami undercover policeman who helped break up the terror bombers. A gun was found in the car and McBride's unidentified companion eluded police when they investigated the vehicle. McBride attempted to get away also, according to Metro police. Investigators have not linked McBride with the bombing incident and no charges have been filed on that.

Children are trained to be an important part of all decisions of family life, and are considered individually instead of just "the children," with many activities of their own. Both husbands and children expect Mother to be interested in everything they do and still keep the allure she had when she first began all this. One young friend said she planned from early morning how to rekindle the spark of excitement between her husband and herself which seemed to have diminished since the birth of their baby. After donning her prettiest nightie, she dabbed her ear lobes with perfume, rubbing some on the nape of her neck. Hubby lay reading in bed, all too unsuspecting. When he finally took her In his arms, his face suddenly took on a look of distaste. "What is that awful smell?" he asked. Rebuffed, Joan was too surprised to answer. Then through stifled tears, she knew. "The baby must have burped on my shoulder again," she added angrily. "He's your baby too, you know."

How many savings accounts should I have?

That depends on YOU! How well you manage your money...and what you are saving for...are the determining factors in deciding how many accounts you should have at Coral Gables Federal. Separate accounts for each of your major needs is the easy, practical way to "budget for the future"...before the need occurs. First and most important is your Regular Savings Account, providing a general cash reserve for emergencies at any time... accumulating the down payment for a home of your own... assuring security and peace of mind for the years to come. But what about once-a-year expenses like taxes? They can take quite a "chunk" out of your regular savings... opening a Special Tax Account is a more realistic (and painless) way to meet this annual need. The same applies to Christmas and Vacation money...best handled through individual accounts. And for your children, of course, you want to do all you can to help them with their higher education...and the way to do it is through a Special College Savings Account. How else could you meet this future expense? So YOU decide how many savings accounts you need at Coral Gables Federal. Each account — Regular or Special — earns dividends at the current rate of 41⁄4% per annum, payable four times a year. Accounts are insured up to $10,000 by a permanent agency of the U.S. Government. And each account enables you to "budget for the future"... whatever your needs may be.
