Sunrise Suit Goes on File
The Sunrise Harbour Association has filed its long-promised suit against the City of Coral Gables to block an emergency ordinance rezoning a series of lots zoned for apartments. Clifford Gould, Gerald Katcher and Joseph Amerkan asked Circuit Judge Robert Floyd to declare null and void emergency measure March 27. The ordinance permits a greater number of apartments to be built than heretofore on certain lots along Edgewater Drive. Katcher said Tuesday that the association was unable to get a copy of the emergency ordinance until only two days remained before the statute ran out on filing a suit against the City. Even then, he said, the ordinance contained some discrepancies, Katcher said. The suit alleges that there were no grounds for an emergency ordinance and that it violated both the City Charter and state statues in not providing proper redress for those opposing it. Meanwhile two groups, one in the Gables, and another in Cconut Grove, decided to back the Sunrise Harbour Association in its fight with the City. They are the Coral Gables Civic Association and the Coconut Grove Civic Club. The Gables Civic Association organized in 1959 to fight high rise buildings.
Free Parking Plan Nixed
Another proposal by the Miracle Mile Association for "free" parking on the Mile during a two-day sale May 25-26 got the cold shoulder from the City Commission Tuesday. Repercussions from Ponce de Leon Boulevard and other merchants were blamed. The association held a sale three months ago and got "free" parking at that time. Meters are covered for such events and the Association reimburses the City for half of the lost revenues.
2 Buildings On Giralda Purchased
Two buildings on Giralda Avenue, one of them for many years Florida Power & Light's headquarters here, have been sold. Purchaser is Constantineos Cazanas. Seller is Murry Friedman. Sale price is approximately $60,000. E. Homer Stone handled the transaction. The Gift Questers is located in the old FPL building and Charles Restaurant is next door. The buildings are 150, 154 and 156 Giralda. Cazanas operates the restaurant. It's the second time Stone has sold the building in which he was located (154 Giralda). Earlier he had been located at 144 Giralda and he sold that, too.

A&P Renovating; New Unit Planned for Coral Gables
The A & P in Coral Gables began extensive renovations this week which Manager B. F. Coyle estimates may cost as much as $100,000. The work will take about a month, he said. It includes new check-out counters and registers, new lighting, new shelving, new flooring (peppermint colored), and expansion of the meat department to include fresh fish. Coyle, who has been manager here three years and connected with this unit in one capacity or another for about 12 years, said the 30,000 square feet store is the second largest A & P in the south. Only one other, at New Orleans, is any larger in area, he said. It is understood that another unit is to be built shortly in Coral Gables, giving A & P its second store inside our city. Final details are being negotiated now. A new store currently is being built at Bird Road and 107th Avenue. Publix Markets is building a new store beside A & P on Le Jeune and will begin a second Gables store in a few weeks. Grand Union, on Ponce de Leon, expects to complete renovations next month which will nearly double its space.

And if you run out of gas, it's easy to push.
© 1962 VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC. And if you run out of gas, it's easy to push. See? A Volkswagen is just the right size to push to the side of the road. Actually, it's surprising that VW owners don't run out of gas more often. When you get around 32 m.p.g. you spend so little time in gas stations, there are almost no reminders. You'll probably never need oil between changes. You'll never need water or anti-freeze because the engine is air-cooled. There are so few things that bring you to a gas station, that the car has a gas gauge this year to help you remember. Now all you have to do is remember to look at it.
