You Got Fair Trial, City Tells 2 Fired Meter Girls

The City Commission Tuesday unanimously turned down an appeal for reinstatement by two meter checkers fired 14 months ago on charges of altering parking tickets. Norweida Barrow and Shirley L. Searle has been also turned down unanimously by the City Trial Board in October, 1961. "After a study of the record, the charges, the testimony and the briefs of the respective parties, the Commission of the City of Coral Gables finds no error in the order and judgment of the Trial Board," said the opinion, signed by the mayor and four commissioners. The two women still have recourse to the Circuit Court, but neither could be reached for comment as to their intentions. Miss Barrow and Mrs. Searle had admitted altering the parking tickets at the trial. They blamed pressure from a "quota" system in which they said they were required to write a predetermined number of tickets each day. The City denied the charges and produced approximately 40 altered tickets.
