By 1975, Twice as Many People -- And More Legal Secretaries!

Behind every lawyer there's a legal secretary and Tuesday night the women stepped to the front. The Coral Gables Legal Secretaries Association installed new officers at a dinner in the CG Country Club and heard a talk by one of their bosses, City Commissioner and Attorney Joe Murphy. Murphy talked about the city—today and tomorrow. For instance, he said that by 1975, the Gables' current population of 37,000 should be 75,000 people. About a third of Gables land remains undeveloped, he noted. The City of Coral Gables has 650 employes. Its assets total $15 million versus the City of Miami's $35 million (with eight times more population). Murphy said this is the "first year in 15 years that Coral Gables has really operated in the black." And looking back 12 years, he recalled that when he opened his practice here he was the 12th lawyer in the Gables. Today, there are about 100. Murphy referred to the recent Jaycee Community survey which polled 520 families on a multitude of questions, among them professional services. For doctors, 67 per cent find them at home. For dentists, 59 per cent patronize Gables men. And for lawyers, only 31 per cent obtain those services in the home community. Circuit Judge L. C. Proby installed Duane Madeira as president, succeeding Frances Johnson. A picture of the new officers will be in next week's Coral Gables Times.

Our Law Library Now At Metro's Pleasure

A request by the Coral Gables Bar Association that Metro establish an auxiliary law library here has been turned over to the Metro Commission Courts Committee for study. Circuit Judge Marshall Wisehart has already certified that the need, if approved, funds would come from court case filing fees. The proposed new library, to be located alongside City Hall, is expected to have an 1,800-book law library division.
