Finances 'Completely Current' At Temple Zamora, Thanks

A special ceremony to thank God for deliverance from peril, will feature the 8:15 Friday night service at the Gables' Temple Zamora. Known traditionally as the "baynching goimel," the ceremony will commemorate the recent "saving" of Temple Zamora from threatned bankruptcy. Rabbi Nathan H. Zwitman, of Tifereth Israel Temple, will conduct the special Sabbath service. The Miami Rabbi is helping temporarily to lead the spiritual activities of Zamora Jewish Center until a new rabbi is found to head the recently debt-ridden conservative congregation. Rabbi Zwitman, comes from a family of religious leaders. He was editor of the weekly, "Illustrated News" in Jerusalem during his four-year rabbinical study in the Holy Land. RABBI ZWITMAN . . . help for the flock The young Rabbi has been active recently in leading a campaign to restore the Temple of Solomon, destroyed by the Babylonians in 586 B.C. and again by the Romans in the First Century A.D. "This is indeed a Sabath of Thanksgiving for all friends of Zamora," said John Bigman, who led temple laymen in the fight to ward off foreclosure by a local financial institution. "We are completely current now and we hope to stay that way from now on. "Our membership has increased by 40 families and has begun a program of activities which promises to make us one of the outstanding Temples in the Greater Miami are," said Bigman. He said the congregation expects more than 500 worshipers to honor the sanctuary at Friday night's service and Oneg Shabbat.

Budget Work at Largo

The City Commission will adopt a new approach to fiscal matters this week end when they travel to Key Largo to unlock the secret of a balanced budget. Mayor Robert L. Searle, Commissioners Franklin Evans, Joe Murphy, C. L. Dressel Jr. and George Wilson, City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr., Finance Director Kenneth Allyn and Bert Burris, City advertising and publicity director, will make the trip. Some of the Commissioners and others indicated they will take their wives and families along. "They just picked a place where they could be off and be together and discuss the budget," said Robinson Tuesday. Commissioners will be free to talk without interruption, he said. The group will stay at the Ocean Reef after arriving Friday night. They will conduct budget sessions Saturday and Sunday and return after the week end, Robinson said. The city manager said the Commission had decided on this method of working out the budget in lieu of the five or six evening dinner meetings, such as have been the practice in the past. The city's budget is in excess of $5 million. The City will not pay for dependents, Robinson said. He did not know how much the trip would cost.
