How Does Our City Rate?
A survey of the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce's 580 members to determine a program of work is nearing completion, Chamber Manager Lee Smith said this week. Replies are still trickling in and the Chamber expects to compile the results starting next week. Members are being asked how they rate the city's transportation, parking, civic, and recreation facilities. They are also asked to rate commercial development, central shopping district and retail sales promotion.

$3.5 Million Worth | U.M. Gets its Library--Finally
| University of Miami's long-awaited library—the $3.5 million Otto G. Richter Library—opened Sunday. The nine-story building, first two stories of which were begun in 1959, was dedicated at 3 p.m. among a gathering of U. M. officials, students and friends of the University. Jack Dalton, dean of the School of Library Service at Colombia University and U. M. President Jay F. W. Pearson gave the principal addresses. Thomas R. Reese, vice president and director of financial research, also spoke about Otto G. Richter, whose $2 million contribution helped make the one-million volume library possible. Other large donors were Meyer Gold, $500,000 and another $500,000 from an anonymous donor. U. M. students also contributed to the library when they voted to double their activities fee to provide money. Dr. Fred Cole, pastor of the Coral Gables Congregational Church, delivered both the invocation and the benediction. The first floor of the completed structure has an undergraduate library seating 800 students with an open shelf collection of 50,000 volumes; an exhibit hall, lecture hall, faculty-staff lounge and a suite for the Miami chapter of Recording for the Blind. On the second floor are reference, circulation, catalog and acquisition departments and administrative offices. The periodicals and government publications division is on the third floor, with more than 50,000 volumes on open shelves. The fourth through seventh, and ninth floors are devoted to stacks and 240 carrells, small alcoves for individual study. Rare books and special collections, a small reading area and six seminar rooms are on the eighth floor. Architects for the building were Watson, Deutschman and Kruse. Contractor was the M. R. Harrison Corp. Among first visitors to the new structure following the dedication ceremonies will be the University's graduating seniors, their families and friends who will be guests at a reception in their honor which will start at 4 p.m. today. It is expected that the new library will be ready for use by the start of the second summer session the latter part of July. While the building is complete, the move from previous quarters in the Merrick Building will not get underway until around July 1.
