Thomas C. Nicholson, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Nicholson, of 1235 Asturia Ave., was one of 2,000 students at Purdue University, Lafayette, Ind., who graduated and received degrees, June 3. Nicholson was a candidate for a Bachelor of Science degree.

Cruise minded members of the Coral Gables Country Club spent a rollicking weekend Saturday and Sunday, June 9 and 10, taking over the entire Calypso Liner for about 400 members for a weekend cruise to the Bahamian island. Some 125 of the cruise-minded remained, returning Sunday at 7 p.m., sailing at 3 p.m. While there they fished, went swimming, had a Bahamian luau and fiesta.

George H. Giese, son of Mr. and Mrs. George H. Giese, of 95 Morningside, graduated at St. Lawrence University, Canton, N.Y., with a Bachelor of Arts degree. June 3. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the regular Army and named a distinguished military graduate. He was a varsity basketball letterman, and a member of Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Veterans Administration Hospital in Coral Gables is richer by the donation of a television set, the gift of the Auxiliary to the Propeller Club of Miami. Mrs. Ralph Jenkins, of 547 Giralda Ave., is a Propeller Club officer.

Eleven seniors at the University of Florida, who call Coral Gables home, received degrees Monday at commencement exercises held in the UF Gymnasium. They are Stephen Allen, BA; Julia V. Benjamin, BA; Alan M. Gordon, LLB; Steven A. Issenberg, BS; Stephen Carr Lutton, BIE; David Tappen Macy, BSF; Richard Larry Medlin, BARCH; Janet Elizabeth Mosley, BAE; Herbert Rosenstock, BSBA; Pricilla A. Seiderman, BA and Anne Edwards Sisler, BA.

Eugene LeBlanc, son of Mrs. Marcel LeBlanc, of 304 Majorca Ave., has been awarded his varsity letter as a member of the 1962 varsity baseball team at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, Geneva, N.Y. A senior class student, LeBlanc is vice president of Sigma Phi fraternity and its pledge master; served on the Intramural board of the Interfraternity council, is a member of R.O.T.C. and the Young Republican Club.

Coral Gables Unit No. 98, American Legion Auxiliary installed new officers Tuesday with Mrs. William C. Rollins, 10th Dist., presiding. Mrs. Marcella Doucette is the president and Mrs. June Reed, is the corresponding secretary.

Pvt. John C. Skogstad, USMC, son of Mrs. Katherine C. Skogstad of 1249 Milan Ave., completed recruit training on May 23, at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Austin C. Stern, son of Mrs. Clarice G. Stern, 81 Edgewater Dr., Coral Gables, received a Master of Arts degree in Education Sunday, at Clark University, Worcester, Mass. Stern is a 1949 graduate of Brookline, Mass., High School and received his Bachelor's degree from Clark in 1954.

Three Coral Gables men were graduated Monday, from Emory University in the University's second largest class in its 125 years existence. They are John Q. Cleveland Jr., 1109 Palermo Ave., bachelor of arts; Frederick R. Freyer Jr., 743 Jeronimo Dr., master of business administration; and William C. McMillan of 1239 Alegriano Ave., Doctor of Dental Surgery.

Captain Carl E. Bell, whose wife is the former Joan Kendall of 104 Antiquerra Ave., is taking part in Exercise Clear Lake, a United States Strike Command training maneuver now being conducted at Eglin AFB, Fla. A graduate of the University of Florida, member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. Captain and Mrs. Bell have three children.

Army Pvt. Erich L. Pabst, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman L. Pabst, 1523 Urbina Ave., has completed the 10-week infantry mechanics course at the Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga. The 22-year-old soldier entered the Army in November, 1961 and completed basic training at Fort Gordon. He is a 1956 graduate of Coral Gables High School.

Mrs. J. G. Latham, 6075 SW 106th St., will be the hostess Tuesday for the meeting of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Alumnae Association of Greater Miami. Mrs. E. H. Anderson, 7620 SW 55th Ave., member of the association who is moving with her family to Jacksonville, will be honored. Mrs. Harvey J. Breeding, 7425 SW 70th Ter., is the 1962-63 president of the association. Installation was held in luncheon ceremonies at Key Biscayne Hotel.

Terrell (Terry) Tumlin Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Terrell Tumlin of 4733 Santa Maria Ave., new president of the Coral Gables Jaycees, is vacation-bound to Phoenix, Ariz., to see his brother Tracy, then on to Las Vegas, Nev. He also hopes to look in on the San Francisco World's Fair while in the Golden West.

Alan Dynner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Dynner, of 1520 Ancona Ave., a Dartmouth College senior, received a Bachelor of Arts degree at the school's 193rd year commencement. Alan is a 1958 graduate of Coral Gables High School.

Mark Snider, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. Snider, of 531 Valancia Ave., was graduated with honors and an A.B. degree from Princeton University, at the School's 215th commencement exercises. Young Snider will enter Yale Medical School in the fall.

Steven Epstein, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Epstein, 921 Place's Ave., will be honored Saturday at a luncheon at the Westbrooke Country Club on the occasion of his Bar Mitzvah at Temple Beth Am. Some 100 guests attended the party with dancing following. Steven will enter Ponce Junior High in the fall.

Capt. William S. Lanterman Jr., son of Mrs. Margaret S. Kratz, of 910 Ferdinand St., who commands the Fleet Weather Central at Suitland, Md., was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal recently for his meteorological work on the staff of Commander, U.S. Naval Support Forces Antarctica. Capt. Lanterman and his wife, are the parents of three children, William III, 15, Rob-ert, 13, and John, 7. Lanterman obtained his master's degree in physics in 1937 from Lafayette College.
