Annexation Machinery Is in Gear
The first step in the process of annexing the 20 - acre "Laesch Tract" is currently underway by Coral Gables. The tract, is bounded by Andora Avenue, Sunset Drive, Trionfo Street and Camillas Street. The City Clerk's office is now compiling a certified list of names of the property owners within the tract. According to the county ordinance on annexation, the list is to be submitted to the City Commission. The property owners will then be notified of the date of a public hearing set by a resolution of the Commission. The tract, once a part of the Gables but removed by litigation, is located just north of Sunset Drive. The next step, following the public hearing, is for the Commission to request Metro's approval of the annexation under the Metropolitan Home Rule Charter.
DADELAND'S NEW SIGN — 11 STORIES UP
2 Gableites Seek TV Operation
Four years of planning for a new color television station, Channel 6, may be realized within the next two weeks if the Federal Communications Commission grants the franchise to Coral Television Corporation. Two Coral Gables residents, Leon McAskill, 631 Santurse Ave., and Keith Phillips Sr., 137 Aragon Ave., hold approximately one-fourth of the stock in the corporation. The corporation has been granted permission to operate the station by F.C.C. Chief Hearing Examiner J. D. Cunningham. If the F.C.C. follows the recommendation of Cunningham, Coral plans to erect the station at 6129 Sunset Dr. Following official approval, the corporation will aim to set Channel 6 into operation within the next six months, or around Christmas time. McAskill is president of the corporation. Other stockholders in the venture are Phillips, Arthur Adler, Charles Clemmens, Cameron Stuart, Leo Robinson and Robert Peterson. The proposed site of Channel 6 is presently occupied by Denning's Hardware. Owners of the building are U. H. Parrish, South Miami Councilman, and James Yarborough.

Figures Can Be Deceiving Finance Director Shows
A reported quarter-million dollars increase in the 1962-63 budget is deceiving, according to Gables Finance Director Kenneth Allyn. The net should have been $98,000, Allyn said. The apparent difference resulted from a shift in some funds between budgets. "Funds from SS-2, 3 and 4 sewer liens in the amount of $112,083 were deducted from sewer bond expense in 1961-62," he said. In the proposed budget for 1962-63, Allyn said, these funds were shown on the income side of the budget instead of being deducted from expense (to show the whole picutre). This resulted in a total gross budget higher than shown in 1961-62 but actually there was no change," Allyn said. "As a result the increase of $560,164 shown as from the original 1961-62 budget to the 1962-63 proposal should be $386,776. The net increase during the year in the 1961-62 budget was $98,761, not near a quarter million dollars as shown in the article. The new $1 million capital improvement bond issue cost $128,858 additional in 1961-62 which, with reduced spending in other operations, led to the net increase of $98,971 in 1961-62," Allyn pointed out.
Royce Andrew Watson, of 501 Giralda Ave., member of the American Society of Medical Technologists is in Washington, D.C., this week attending the convention of the ASMT June 17 through the 22nd. The five day convention will contain workshops, seminars, tours and awards.
