Martha A. Lair, 612 Velarde St., was graduated Monday, June 8, from the University of Kentucky, one of 1,432 students awarded degrees.

WOODS JANOSKI Frank M. Woods Jr., son of Dr. and Mrs. Frank M. Woods, of 825 South Alhambra Circle, was commissioned a marine second lieutenant upon graduation from the officer candidate course at the Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, Va., on May 25. He is currently attending a 26-week basic school required of all newly commissioned officers and upon completion of the school will be assigned to a Marine Corps organization for duty or to another school for further training.

Jeffrey B. Gluckman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Gluckman, 1220 Anastasia Ave., and Coral Gables High School graduate was graduated with honors at Cornell University's 94th commencement. A member of Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity, Jeffrey was a member of the staff of the Cornell Daily Sun, student newspaper.

From New York comes the news that holes-in-one scored by two Coral Gables residents may earn one of them a trip to Scotland for two and $1,000 in the national Old Smuggler Hole-In-One sweepstakes. They are William C. Richards, of 1256 Milan Ave., Granada Golf course and Jack Sheriff, of 724 Coral Way, Biltmore Municipal Club. The winners will be announced at the end of the year.

Lew Emerson Schlegel who graduated cum laude June 10 from Claremont Men's College, Claremont, Calif., had his proud parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schlegel, of South Miami, as his guests. The Schlegels flew out for the commencement and a visit with Lew and his wife Sharon and their two children.

Airman Kenneth M. Janoski, a Coral Gables Navy reservist, who resides at 1540 Comiche Ave., is a member of the Attack Squadron 741, which is currently undergoing two weeks of active duty at the Marine Air Station, Yuma, Arizona.

Mr. and Mrs. George E. Airth, of 733 Palermo Ave., have two smart daughters. Alice, the younger, graduated in the June commencement of Coral Gables High School, and here for the event was Alice's grandmother, Mrs. George Burnett, of Live Oak, and her aunt, Mrs. Frank Airth of Jacksonville... The Airths' daughter, Margie, is studying for her masters degree in drama at Baylor University in Texas and will finish there in the winter. She will be home, however, for a vacation in August.

Army Pvt. Frederick E. Kegelmeyer, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Kegelmeyer, 3930 Riviera Dr., has completed the eight-week clerical course, under the Reserve Forces Act program, at the Armor Training Center, Fort Knox, Ky. He received instruction in typing, English grammar, Army correspondence and filing and the preparation of morning reports. He is a 1956 graduate of Catholic Central High School, Grand Rapids, Mich., and attended Aquinas College in Grand Rapids.

ROOD Judith Anne Rood, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nathan B. Rood, of 845 Catalonia Ave., received her A. B. in Social Relations at the June 13 commencement of Radcliffe College, Cambridge, Mass. In traditional ceremonies the exercises were held out of doors in the Radcliff Yard.

Steve Brown, son of the Max Browns, won the Westbrooke Junior League golf putting tournament for boys and girls under 13 years of age.

Sam Mannone, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Mannone, of 3920 Monserrate St., has reported to Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas for basic training. Sam is a graduate of Coral Gables High School.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul K. Thompson of 740 Jeronimo Drive have moved to Lake Harris, Florida.

Helen Zerbey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Zerbey, formerly of 2121 North Greenway Dr., now residing at 12820 SW 6th Ave., is joining her mother in visiting in Jenkinstown, Pa. Helen spent four months in Europe and only recently returned.

Ray Howe, former student assistant at the Granada Presbyterian Church graduated from Columbia Seminary on June 5. He accepted a call, and has become minister at the Presbyterian Church of Eastover, S.C.

Mrs. Frederick Huntington Putnam, who calls Boston home, is the house guest of her daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Tainter, 3701 SW 58th Ave. Mrs. Putnam, who is up there in years, is quite active, she turns the TV set on for weather reports and such. She likes to sit in the Florida sunshine, especially in the shade of some trees in the Putnam garden, and read.

G. James Hughes, church treasurer of the Coral Gables Congregational Church, has resigned to accept his new position with the Citizens National Bank of Englewood, N.J. Hughes and his family, including "Petey," Pat and Jimmie resided at 5625 SW 62nd Ave.

Lt. William Senn, USCG, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Senn of 115 Alhambra Cir., is undergoing helicopter flight training at Ellyson Field, Pensacola. A graduate of St. John High School, Delafield, Md., Lt. Senn entered the service in February, 1949.

Thomas P. Jardine, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Jardine, of 1444 Cecilia Ave., has completed the four-week airborne course at Infantry School, Fort Benning, Ga. A 1957 graduate of Tabor Academy, Marion, Mass., he attended the University of Miami.

Sandy Digby, of 637 Madeira Ave., was among 25 teenagers from St. Peter's United Lutheran Church who attended the 25th annual three day convention at Florida Presbyterian College, St. Petersburg. She earned her transportation and expenses with the others by selling doughnuts throughout various neighborhoods.

Mrs. Carl Balli of 3301 Granada Blvd., is the newly elected president of Alpha Delta Pi Alumnae association, and Mrs. Ramon Arnold of 600 SW 45th Ave., is the secretary. The association has adopted a child at the Crippled Children's Center and will pay for a part of his treatment. Of the many donations the association has made, the "Storybook Shoe" was subsequently given to a Chilean delegation for use in hospitals in that country. This was good for hand therapy for inside of the story book door were the toys.
