Weddings This Week: June Smiles on New Gables Brides
THE WALTER PIERCES JR. England--Pierce Wed Coronation Day
THE WALTER PIERCES JR. Gables and white roses decorated the Coral Gables Congregational Church for the wedding of the former Miss Ann England and Walter Morgan Pierce Jr. Saturday afternoon June 2. The Rev. Dr. Fred Cole officiated at the 5:30 p.m. ceremony in the presence of the immediate family and a few close friends, and the reception followed at the home of the groom's mother, Mrs. Maylen Pierce, 1129 Palermo Ave. The bride, a true Britisher, selected the Queen's Coronation Day as the day of her wedding to Walter whom she met in Kingston, Jamaica. For her wedding the bride chose a white organza with Alencon lace inserts. Her illusion veil fell from a crown of flowers and she carried white daisies. Mrs. Staples Pierce attended the bride, as matron of honor. She wore light blue chiffon and carried yellow daisies. Staples Pierce was best man for his brother. The bride graduated from Howell College Bedfordshire and has been associated with the Canadian Consulate in Jamaica. The groom a native Miamian, is the son of Mrs. Maylen Newby Pierce of Coral Gables and Walter Morgan Pierce, of South Miami. He was graduated from Duke University and a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He was commissioned a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy serving five years including duty as an instructor in anti-submarine warfare and on a destroyer. The couple returned from their honeymoon trip to the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia and left for their home in Kingston, Friday.
St. Petersburg Will be Their Home
Mr. and Mrs. Otis B. Radebaugh, of 1596 Consolata Ave., announce the marriage of their daughter, Betsy Anne to Philip James Knight, son of Mr. and Mrs. Marion B. Knight Sr., of Blountstown. The ceremony took place at the Coral Gables First Methodist Church Saturday, June 9. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a floor length gown of organza and Alencon lace designed with fitted bodice Sabrina neck line and short sleeves. The skirt swept to a chapel train and the bride wore bouffant short veil which fell from a cluster of handmade roses and orangeblossoms. She carried a bouquet of seven white orchids. Mrs. Hans Grosklos, of Ft. Pierce and first cousin of the bride, was matron of honor. Miss Mary Virginia Knight, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid. They wore identical gowns of pale yellow organza and lace and carried baskets of yellow roses. Dr. Marion B. Knight Jr., of Blountstown, was best man. Ushers were William Tye of Ft. Pierce, Maury McKinney, South Miami, and Richard Leath of Blountstown. Dr. J. E. Hanger officiated at the 7:30 p.m. double-ring ceremony and the reception took place at the home of the bride's parents. The bride's mother wore a pale blue gown of silk-linen with white lace bodice. Mother of the groom wore a soft rose dress of Chantilly lace and both matrons wore white orchids. The bride is a graduate of Coral Gables High School and Woman's College of the University of North Carolina. The groom graduated from Baylor Prep School, Chattanooga, Tenn., Florida State University, and Stetson College of Law, St. Petersburg, where the couple will reside at 1119 Sea Gull Lane.
Jane Booth To Head JC Women
Jane Booth was installed the new president of the Coral Gables Junior Chamber of Commerce Auxiliary June 9 at the Jaycee's Installation and Awards Banquet, held at the Coral Gables Country Club. Auxiliary past president Connie (Mrs. Edward) Russo, assisted Betsy (Mrs. Larry) Adams, outgoing president, in the installation. New officers are Jane Booth, president; Betty Trocchia, first vice-president; Lee Helsley, second vice-president; Suzane Clark, secretary; Margaret Guilford, treasurer; and Virginia Souviron, auditor. Mrs. Adams received a necklace from the Auxiliary in appreciation for her past year's leadership.
Recent Gables Resident Married in Vero Beach
MRS. PHILIP J. KNIGHT The First Methodist Church, Vero Beach, was the setting Saturday for the wedding of the former Miss Mary Willis Givens, daughter of Colonel and Mrs. Willis R. Givens of Vero Beach, formerly of Coral Gables, and Kerry Michael Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. John R. Kelly, Gainesville. Pictured in her wedding gown of candlelight peau de soie which swept to an aisle wide train, the bride wore a short bouffant veil of illusion and carried a Dutchess rose bouquet composed of cream colored roses. Miss Mary Carlton Batts, of Hawkinsville, Ga., was honor maid. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Richard Givens, Mrs. Ivy S. Duggan, Miss Lorne Mitchell, Mrs. Theodore K. Hastings and Mrs. Larry B. Stowe, of Coral Gables. Father of the groom was best man. Ushers were Richard C. Givens, Christopher Kelly, James Green and Perry McGriff Jr., all of Gainesville; Wade Seals and Gordon Anthony of Jacksonville and Michael Reynolds, of Tampa. The Rev. R. Maurice Felton officiated at the 8 p.m. double ring ceremony. Col. Givens gave his daughter in marriage and the reception followed at the home of the bride's parents. Mother of the bride wore a strapless ball gown of white lace over pink with an overblouse of lace with sleeves. The bride graduated from Vero Beach High School and attended Stephens College; Columbia, Missouri and Stetson Universities. The groom graduated from Gainesville High School, attended the University of Florida and is now attending Stetson University, Deland. After a wedding trip through Central Florida, the couple will reside in Deland.
Silver-Winkleman Rite Sunday
On a honeymoon trip to Jamaica are Mr. and Mrs. William O. Winkleman, following their marriage Sunday at Temple Beth Am. The bride, the former Miss Carla Silver is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Silver, of 308 Cadima Ave. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Winkleman, of Chicago, and formerly of Coral Gables. The ceremony took place at 12:30 p.m. in Temple Beth Am with Rabbi Herbert Baumgard officiating. Ushers were Steven Opler, Norman Hoffman and Alan Helman. The bride, wore a white silk organza wedding gown with Alencon lace neckline and inserts in the bouffant skirt. Her voluminous illusion veil fell from a crown of pearls and she carried valley lillies and white roses bouquet. She was attended by her sister Miss Billie Silver as honor maid and bridesmaids were Mrs. Sally Sage, sister of the groom, and Barbara Abel. The groom's father was best man. The reception was held at the temple. The bride and groom both graduated from Coral Gables High School where they met and the bride attended the University of Miami and the Walsh School of Business Science.
