'Chess Anyone?' He'd like to Know

A national or international chess tourney for this area in connection with the King Orange festivities? It's an idea that Coral Gables attorney Murray G. Cohen is trying to promote. That is, if enough people are interested in it. And there's only one sure way to know, said Cohen, and that is to find out. This is what he is doing. Cohen's idea is to capitalize on the current interest in chess, partly due to the Cold War, and combine it with the Orange Bowl festivities to make it more event in the ever growing celebration. The Soviet Union has evolved chess into a national pastime. The CPA-attorney points out that there are 150 rated area chess players and another 1,500 not rated. His plan is to use some recreational facility — such as the Coral Gables Youth Center, already a headquarters for chess — as the focal point for the national or international tourney. Cohen said he hasn't attempted to contact government officials yet because he wants to determine if there is any set sentiment for such an event.
