U.F. Renews Goal: One Solicitation
JAY I. KISLAK One solicitation per year for all Dade's employes is the goal of the United Fund Chapter Plan Committee, composed of industry and organization leaders throughout the County, according to Jay I. Kislak, 8301 SW 48th Ave., campaign chairman. All Dade County employers with 25 or more employes will be invited to register their firms as United Fund Chapters. Those employers who so register agree to support the United Fund as best they can in line with the following principles: To give only one corporate gift a year to support all health, welfare and character building agencies eligible for United Fund inclusion. To permit only one solicitation of employes a year, and that for United Fund. To adopt the payroll deduction Fair Share plan (one hour's pay per month) for subscribing employes. It was pointed out that churches, hospitals and other charities not eligible for membership in the United Fund would not be affected by the proposal. "The purpose of the United Fund is to consolidate as many appeals as possible under one drive," said Jay I. Kislak, 1962 campaign chairman. "The Chapter Plan is the first step in this direction."

Franchise Rejected
City Gas Company's proposed franchise has been tentatively turned down by the City Commission. City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. told the Commission at their Tuesday night conference that the franchise is unacceptable to him, because, he said, they have made no provision to service all Coral Gables residents. Their plans now apply only to the University of Miami. Further conferences with the company, however, are still in the offing.

They ARE Nosy, for a Cause
If a young woman knocks at your front door and asks if you've got peas or corn on your kitchen shelves, it's just Mrs. Florence Diffenderfer doing her job. The housewife who lives at 7530 SW 35th St. is one of three South Floridians conducting a census for the U.S. Department of Commerce. The federal government is asking questions about your food supply for use in civil defense planning. The census is being conducted here and in 322 other sample areas of the nation during the week of June 18. So Mrs. Diffenderfer will be asking you questions such as how often do you shop for food, when did you shop last, and how long would your present supply of food last without going out to shop again?
