Fashions were by a 5-7-9 Shop in the Gables.
Miss Beaton Greets Visiting Librarians
Miss Margaret Beaton, head of the Coral Gables Public Library, was hospitality chairman at the American Library Association opens its annual convention this week in Miami Beach. The convention, at the Fontainebleau Hotel, will close Saturday. Miss Beaton, also a member of the executive board, arranged a reception for officers of the Association and their guests. The reception was held in the Hotel's garden at noon Sunday. Assisting Miss Beaton were members of her hospitality committee and staff members from the Gables Library. Adding to the affair was a band of musicians which played as they strolled through the garden. Some 3,500 persons were expected to attend the reception, Miss Beaton said. Monday and Thursday, 10 Gables buses carry some 400 delegates on a sightseeing tour of the City Beautiful. Arrangements were made for the tours by City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. and Transportation Director Lee Davis.

U. Christian Selects New Lay Leaders
University Christian Church has elected three elders, returned the same six deacons, and elected, Mrs. William R. McClaflin, a deaconess for three years and Mr. McClaflin an elder for life. The elders elected for three years ending June 30, 1965 are: Joe B. Powell and Carlton Harrell for a 2 year term. Ralph Hooten will serve until 1963 to fill a vacancy. The deacons elected for a three-year term, ending June 30, 1965 are: Carl Gebhardt, John Chapman, James Schuyler, Paul Carwile, Tom Burkhart and Duane Walters. Elected for one term to fill a vacancy is Leonard Wirkus.
City Drivers 'Walk' Away With Driving Awards
Gables City drivers took three firsts and one second place in the recent Fourth Annual South Florida Governmental Motor Vehicle Road-e-o. James A. Moore of the Public Service Department, won first prize in the waste truck division. Robert Assenmacher, of the Public Service Department, won first place in the heavy truck division. And Officer William Just, of the Police Department, captured top award in the passenger car division. Second place winner in the light truck division, Ronald Pickard, a garage employe. First place winners received a $100 U.S. Defense Bond. Second place winners got a $50 bond. The contest was held at Dinner Key June 2.
