One innkeeper was obliged to post this sign: "Gentlemen learning to spell are requested to use last week's newsletter." For more than three centuries newspapers were la boriously turned out in small numbers on hand presses. In 1814 the London Times installed the first steam-powered printing press. It ushered in a mechanical revolution that made possible the mass circulation of present dailies.
Young Demos Schedule Debate
"What role should partisan political clubs play in non-partisan elections? This will be the topic of a panel discussion at the June 26 meeting of the Coral Gables Young Democrats. The meeting will be held on the third floor of the Coral Gables Federal Savings and Loan Association, at 8:15 p.m. Club president Ainslee R. Ferdie will moderate the discussion. Panel members will be Commissioners Joseph Murphy, and Dr. Franklin Evans, of Coral Gables; County Commissioner Jimmey Allen, of Miami Springs; Councilman William Bender of West Miami; and William Martin, Chairman of the Dade County Democratic Executive Committee. The meeting is open to the public.
