Our Boy Jim Watches For Those Stars in the Skies

Can you imagine throwing aside your blanket and leaving your warm bed at 5 a.m. to go outside to watch a formation in the sky? Jim Klein did that several months ago because the 14-year-old is interested in astronomy. He has his own telescope. Jim, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Klein, 610 Fluvia Ave., is a ninth grader at Ponce de Leon Junior High. Born in Philadelphia, Jim is a Life Scout and senior patrol leader with Troop 16, sponsored by the Coral Gables Knights of Columbus. Not only is he interested in astronomy, but Jim likes forestry and conservation and is considering them as a career. The youngster, in his spare time, goes fishing with his dad aboard a 25-foot cabin cruiser they built. The Times carrier delivers in an area bounded by Bird Road, Palmarito Street, Jeronimo Drive and LeJeune Road. JIM KLEIN ... star gazer

Cooler, Carpet Are Sought by Cavs

The student body and the Parent-Teacher Association of Coral Gables High School are busy figuring ways to raise money for air conditioning and carpeting which will be installed in the school's enlarged main office. The School Board allocated $48,421 for the total project, but sufficient funds were not available to cover the cost of air conditioning and carpeting. According to Principal J. J. Norton, however, these two items will be included when the office opens. The funds will be borrowed in order to do this, and funds raised by the students and PT-A will go toward paying off the loan. "I feel sure," said Norton, "That we will raise the money, or we would not be making this move." Six thousand dollars is needed to pay for the two improvements. The Student Council is planning a carnival to help raise their share of the money, while the majority of PT-A funds probably will come from voluntary contributions. The main office, fronting on Bird Road, is being enlarged to consolidate the offices of the principal, assistant principals, guidance counselors, student activities director, registrars, attendance department and the clerical staff.
