Fashions Around the World

Members of the Patrons' Committee of the Museum of Science and Natural History will nodel a winter collection at their fashion show luncheon to be given Monday, Oct. 29, at the DuPont Plaza Hotel. The clothing, made from fabrics collected from all over the world, is in keeping with the luncheon theme "Around the World." In addition to the fashion show, the 150-member committee gives a fair each spring on the museum grounds. Last year more than $12,000 was donated to the museum by the Patrons' Committee.

Is the Supreme Court Supreme Law of Land?

By JUNE GRAY Woman's Editor "God is being outlawed by the Supreme Court," Mrs. Mary McElwee, former candidate for the Dade County School Board, told members of the Riviera Republican Women's Club of Coral Gables Thursday of last week. Speaking to approximately 50 women at a luncheon meeting at the Coral Gables Country Club, Mrs. McElwee declared that the Supreme Court is not the supreme law of the land and the citizens do not have to follow its rulings. But citizens must band together to preserve their freedom or the Supreme Court may next rule out the pledge of allegiance because of the phrase "One nation under God," Mrs. McElwee said. She charged the liberals have a double standard. On one hand they deplore censorship on such books as "Catcher in the Rye," but they are most eager to ban the most important book, the Bible, she said. After reminding the women that the responsibility of bringing up their children should not be left to modern education, Mrs. McElwee warned the group about a program which is being sponsored by UNESCO. If the program is put into a bill and passed by Congress, schools would be put under international control. As a result, citizens would have no say-so at all about educational control, according to Mrs. McElwee. She said too many women had become so preoccupied with playing bridge and trivial things, they have neglected to keep themselves informed. Since Americanism versus Communism will be taught in the public schools beginning this spring, she advised that the parents study carefully the textbooks and other reading matter which will be used. "If they do not," she cautioned, "they are going to wake up and wonder one day why their child has become a hardboiled Communist. Children are very impressionable at the high school age, and parents should know what they are being taught."

Not Near Enough

What started to be trash fire wound up destroying an automobile Saturday afternoon. A 1956 Chevrolet convertible belonging to Jim Donaldson, 2339 Le Jeune Rd., (Over La Salle Cleaners), burned shortly before 5 p.m. when a fire started in a pile of trash by an unidentified person spread to the car. Before Gables firemen could travel the block from the Fire Station, the car was gone.
