University band director Fred W. McCall Jr., 1532 Trevino Ave., received a second degree burn on his left arm while frying hamburgers at a band picnic Saturday afternoon at Crandon Park. Grease on a baking sheet caught fire.

Jane Comfort, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey H. Comfort, 1226 Alberca St., has been elected treasurer of the Cap and Gown honor society at Florida Southern College. A senior sociology major, she had a perfect 4.0 scholastic average during the spring semester. She is a member of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority.

Another Coral Gables coed, Ann Alexander, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard H. Alexander, 1225 Aduana Ave., was one of the 12 students selected to membership this semester. A junior, majoring in Religious education, she is a member of the Southernettes social society. Membership in Cap and Gown is the highest honor awarded to junior and senior coeds and is based on outstanding academic and campus leadership.

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil H. Wiggins-he's the City's purchasing agent-were to return from Baltimore this week where they have been visiting their daughter, Mrs. Walter Teas. On the way up, Wiggins went to Chicago to attend a meeting of purchasing agents, Sept. 24-26, and re-joined his wife in Baltimore.

James W. Crabtree, son of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Crabtree, 2421 San Domingo, has been named student assistant director of the 'Gator Growl, homecoming activities at University of Florida. He has also been elected to the legislative council of the student government body.

A Progressive Suchas Dinner Dance will be given Saturday night by the Coral Gables, Chapter of Women's American ORT. Cocktails will be served at 7 o'clock with dinner at 8 o'clock at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Max Deakter, 4400 Granada Blvd. Dessert, dancing and entertainment will follow at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Langer, 4209 Granada Blvd.

at the district meeting held recently at Chalet-Suzanne, Lake Wales. Mrs. Murphy, who is in the real estate business, lives at 813 Lisbon St.

Deonne DuBarry, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John R. DuBarry, 3504 Le Jeune Rd., has been elected secretary-treasurer of the Modern Dance Club at Louisiana State University.

Girls of Scout Troop 139 will entertain the women of St. Hilda's Chapter of St. Philip's Episcopal Church with a skit, next Thursday night at their Gay '90's Party which will be held in Sewanee Hall.

A games party will be given at 8 o'clock next Wednesday evening by the Ladies Auxiliary to Post 5718 of the V.F.W. at the post home, 45 Almeria Ave.

Marine Pvt. Gordon C. Wolfe, son of Mrs. Homer H. Rhode, 15 Alcantarra Ave., has completed four weeks of individual combat training with the Infantry Training Regiment at Camp LeJeune, N.C.

May Brunson, dean of women at University of Miami, will be guest speaker at the Founder's Day Luncheon of the Miami Alumnae Association of Kappa Delta sorority to be held Saturday at the Miami Shores Country Club. This will be a joint meeting with the Ft. Lauderdale chapter. Mrs. Kenneth Wittich, 140 Almeria Ave., is president.

Mrs. Kathryn Murphy, past president of the Quota Club of Coral Gables, was named lieutenant governor of District 27 of Quota Clubs International

Three Coral Gables men have pledged fraternities at Emory University. They are David DuPuy, 438 Cadagua Ave., Sigma Chi; Brian R. McComb, 700 Mendoza, Phi Delta Theta; and Frederic G. Smith, 625 University Dr., Sigma Nu.

Frank Moore, 4005 Santa Maria, will compete in the 32nd annual Southern Seniors Golf Association Championship tournament which will be played at Ponte Vedra Oct. 25-27.

Sharon Bimel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles C. Bimel, 143 Morningside Dr., has pledged Alpha Phi sorority at Rollins College. She was graduated in June from the Everglades School for Girls.

Army 1st Lt. John H. Schulte, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edmund R. Schulte, 1259 Asturia Ave., recently participated in a large-scale NATO exercise in Germany. Lieutenant Schulte is cable construction platoon leader.

Pi Beta Phi sorority at the University of Kentucky. Donna is majoring in home economics and fashion design.

Richard G. Woodhull Jr. has been promoted to captain in the U.S. Air Force. A graduate of Coral Gables Senior High, he attended Florida State University, where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. Capt. Woodhull, who entered the service in 1955, is a pilot. His parents are deceased.

A 1959 Coral Gables High graduate, Sam Zorn, has been appointed production chairman for Gator Growl at the University of Florida's 1962 homecoming, scheduled for Oct. 19-20. Zorn is a senior journalism major. A junior political science major from Coral Gables, Ellis Vaughan, has been appointed director of stadium control for the University of Florida's 1962 homecoming.

Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Thomas, 1411 Siena Ave., is one of the 400 Dade County students chosen to participate in the Junior Achievement of Greater Miami, Inc. A sophomore at Coral Gables High, he was chosen from more than 1,000 applicants. He was barely old enough to be eligible-fifteen and one-half. Edmund wants to get into the company sponsored by Delta Air Lines since his father has worked for them for 20 years. Captain Thomas is a jet pilot.
