UN Best Peace Means
United Nations provides the most hopeful avenue for peace today, according to the Rev. Gordon N. Craig of the Tamiami Temple Methodist Church. Speaking last Friday morning to approximately 75 members of the Woman's Society of Christian Service of the Coral Gables First Methodist Church, the Rev. Craig pointed out that down through the ages man has attempted to find methods of protection from the elements, animals and himself. "Today we face the threat of nuclear war," he said. "We are told that Russia is building a missile base 90 miles from our shores, but we already have missile bases constructed in Greece, which is next to the Communist border. "We are engaged in an arms race, while at the same time we are trying to negotiate peace in Geneva. We are faced with revolutions all over the world caused by both political and economic dissatisfaction." The Rev. Craig feels that the UN is the most promising foundation that we have established for solving world difficulties. It serves as a go-between where heads of nations can discuss their differences without going to war. He said many people think the cost of UN to the United States is too high. In 1959, the last year for which he could find figures, the cost of the UN for each U.S. person was 61 cents.
