149 Top Elmer Gerth Score

Mrs. John Finerty placed first in the Elmer Gerth tournament sponsored by the Coral Gables Country Club Women's Golf Association with a score of 149 Friday of last week. Second place was Mrs. Belle Mathers, with a score of 150; third, Mrs. Albert Anderson, 152; fourth, Mrs. Stanley Burke, 154, and fifth, Mrs. Edna Kasper, 154 — the two women flipped a coin to settle tie. Sixth, Mrs. Tony McCrackin, 155 and seventh, Mrs. W. M. Hartnett 155 — playoff will be later; eighth, Mrs. Joseph Thompson. In the low net for the field tournament, Mrs. Larry Larrimore placed first with 36. Second place was a tie between Mrs. Dave Bosworth and Mrs. John Lawrence with 36 1/2; third, Mrs. G. E. Hall, 37; and fourth a tie between Mrs. Krit Logdson and Mrs. Albin Dohre, 37 1/2.

Cavalier Students Taking UM Work

By JOYCE DENIS Correspondent Twenty-six high school students selected as possible future engineers are taking a basic course in engineering at the University of Miami. Representing 14 Dade County public schools, the students received scholarships for a course "Introduction to Engineering." Holding scholarships from Gables are Charles Parsons, Michael J. Zinner and Charles Hay. In an "Oriental Moon" atmosphere, Lyle Muller was chosen Cavallette Sweetheart and Rick Merritt and Tom Taft sponsors. The announcement was made by Elsie Lettino, president of the girls drill team. * * * Excitement is at its pinnacle, as the arrival of the Honduran Amigos draws nearer. Nov. 12-26 is the scheduled visitation and two week period of educational exchange. Some 30 high school students from Honduras will stay with their student hosts. * * * The recently publicized "Miss Teen-Age Miami" contest choose 4 Gables students: Sue Morrill, Wendy Lauderman, Alicia Einhorn and Dona Sue Rankin as finalists. Joyce Morrill, a 1962 Gables graduate and University of Miami freshman, was crowned "Miss Teen-Age Miami."

The First Methodist Church of Coral Gables has added nine new members. They are Mr. and Mrs. Charles P. Gyauch, 6081 SW 19th St.; Mr. and Mrs. Glenn H. McNew Jr., 9115 SW 61st Ct.; Mrs. Francis Gates, 1206 Cordova St.; Mrs. Miriam M. Palmer, Virginia L. Palmer and Gail Morris, 500 Minorca Ave. Gospel meetings will begin at 7:30 o'clock Sunday night at the Lake Church of Christ and continue through Nov. 2. Six different ministers will speak. Ken Joyner, Westwood Lake Church, will speak Sunday night; Albert Lemmons, Hialeah, Monday; P. Morrison, Central Church of downtown Miami, Tuesday; Tuck Andrews, North Miami, Wednesday; Nat Cooper, Opa-Locka, Thursday; and Elmer Morgan, South Miami, Friday.
