Thomas New Leader of Citizens

I. TOMMY THOMAS ... Wants Members I. Tommy Thomas, Coral Gables Realtor and appraiser, is the new president of the Citizens Committee. He replaces William Weissel. Other officers are Carl Blohm, vice president; Mrs. Harry Barton, secretary; and Miss Connie Arnaz, treasurer. The first move, Thomas said, will be building up the membership of the organization. A drive has been launched to get new blood. Thomas promised that the group will be active on such questions as parking and a proposal to change the Gables City Charter to permit the sale of liquor in large motels and restaurants. Next meeting of the group is scheduled next Tuesday at 8 a.m. at the Coral Way Cafeteria. Members of the City Commission are scheduled to answer questions about the operation of the City.

Edward McCord, 64, Was Music Supply Salesman

Music supply salesman, Edward C. McCord, 64, of 1132 Obispo Ave., died Oct. 16. Services were held Oct. 19 at Van Orsdel Mortuary. He came here ten years ago from New York, was a member of World War I Rainbow Division, 167th Infantry, and the First Methodist Church of Coral Gables. Survivors include his wife, Ethel and a sister.

9 Permits Are Issued For Building

Nine building permits, totalling $116,275, were issued by the Coral Gables Building Department last week. Permits, which do not reflect land values, were issued to Abe Lefkove, 625 San Juan Dr., pool, $3,500. Mr. and Mrs: Charles Schneider, 800 Venetia Avenue, screen enclosure, $1,000. A. R. Lindsley, 12630 Ramiro St., residence and screen enclosure, $36,000. L. F. Hunt, 1256 Venetia Ave., residence, $15,000. Candido Arreche, 95 Palermo Ave., residence, $13,000. ENGAGEMENT

Mr. and Mrs. Frank H. Terry Sr., 8371 SW 27th Ter., announce the engagement of their daughter, Kerolyn Ruth, to Glenn Charles Klein, son of Mrs. Florence Long, 1648 NW 115th St., and George F. Klein, Buffalo. The wedding is planned for Nov. 22.

Tharps' Son Dies At 27; Lived Here

Services for Charles K. Tharp, 27-year-old son of Dr. Charles D. Tharp, vice president and dean of the University of Miami faculties, were held Saturday of last week in Van Orsdel Mortuary. He died Oct. 17 of cancer. He was a member of the American Institute of Banking, and an employee of the First National Bank of Miami where he had been in the executive training program since January. Mr. Tharp was graduated in 1958 from the University of Miami, where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and served in the Navy for three and one-half years as a lieutenant junior grade. Surviving are his wife, Adel; a daughter, Marlys; a son, Charles Andrew; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tharp; and a brother, David.

To Give Concert

Pierre Mande's string quartet will play for the Sunday afternoon public concert at the Musicians Club, 303 Minorca Ave., at four o'clock. Mande, a violinist, was a pupil of Jacques Thibaud of the Paris Conservatory, and now is a staff teacher at the Miami Conservatory. Pianist Mimi Retskin, a member of the Miami Conservatory faculty, helped her husband found the Miami Beach Civic Orchestra.

DIANE BOERGER

Diane Boerger, a Coral Gables High graduate, has been awarded the Borden Home Economics Scholarship Award of $300 at Florida State University. She has a 3.5 average. At FSU, Miss Boerger has served as junior counselor in her dormitory and is now president of the Home Economics Club. She is also vice president and secretary of Omicron Nu, home economics honorary. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Boerger, 3112 Matilda St.
