This Guitar Leaves Standing Room Only

By RAYMOND LANG Times Reporter When the woman customer, a rosy blush on her face, carried the odd-shaped guitar into the music store for restringing, Edith Gash went right to the seat of the problem. But then Mrs. Gash has never before seen a guitar made out of—a toilet seat. "This woman came in and asked if we have guitar strings,' Mrs. Gash laughed, recalling last Friday. Mrs. Gash owns the Gash Music Company at 2000 Ponce de Leon Blvd. "And I said, 'Yes', and then she went out to the car and brought this in," Mrs. Gash said, still laughing while she pointed to the musical freak. Just for laughs, Mrs. Gash put the guitar in her window. "It created such a stir among the customers I couldn't resist putting it in the window," said Mrs. Gash. Carved on the guitar's back was the word 'Straddevarious,' a play on the world-renowned 'Stradivarius' violin. Mrs. Gash said the woman told her she was from Boca Raton and had brought the guitar in for a friend of hers who lives in Coral Gables. The customer did not want the Gableite's name released. Oh, yes. The two guitar strings cost $1.20.

—Times Photo by RAYMOND LANG IT'S NOT everyday you see a guitar made from a toilet seat as you walk down Ponce de Leon Boulevard. But Jim, 2, (left) and Mark, 3, Kramer, 14 Navarre Ave., saw this one last week in the window of Gash Music Company.
