PEOPLE Places & Things

Six couples, with adjoining cabanas at Westbrooke Country Club, a few weeks ago decided to remain together for their vacations, taking a Caribbean cruise. They reported, after returning home last week, they enjoyed it so much, that they play to be together again next August when Westbrooke's first caravan to Europe takes to the air. The six couples are Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Pozen, 1020 S. Alhambra Cir.; Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Rudnick, 8100 Old Cutler Rd.; Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Schreer, 6409 Caballero; Mr. and Mrs. Sid Efronson, 5930 SW 62nd Place; Mr. and Mrs. Milt Korotkin, 6001 Riviera Dr.; and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pomerantz (vice president of Westbrooke), 1120 Manati Ave. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. Richard M. (Suzanne) Carnell and her three-year-old son, Richard Jr., are flying here Saturday from Clear, Alaska, to visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence G. Lally, 1410 Cantoria Ave. Suzanne's husband, who is in Alaska on a governmental assignment, will arrive Dec. 21 and will remain until after Christmas before his family flies back to Alaska. The Lallys' son Patrick and his wife Judi are also coming down from St. Petersburg so that the entire family will be together for Christmas. The other family member is the Lally's 12-year-old daughter, Mike. ★ ★ ★ Carol Hagglund, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clemens Hagglund, 1136 Andora, is one of 75 freshmen taking advanced courses this semester at Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio. The courses offered in the program for superior freshmen are those generally taken during the sophomore year. Carol is enrolled in general psychology. ★ ★ ★ Norman Klekamp will give a piano concert at four o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Musicians Club, 203 Minorca. He will play selections from Chopin and Debussy. Charleston to Gatlinburg, Tenn., where they saw snow and ice. ★ ★ ★ Mrs. John Sessions, 1230 Mendavia Ave., is serving as general chairman of a reception tomorrow (Friday) evening for the Rt. Rev. and Mrs. James L. Duncan in Sewanee Hall of St. Philip's Episcopal Church. The event will be from 8 to 9 p.m. In the receiving line will be the Rev. John G. Shirley, rector, and Mrs. Shirley, Lyle T. Pritchard, senior warden, and Mrs. Pritchard, Willard R. Brown, junior warden, and Mrs. Brown, and Mrs. Sessions. The Duncans, who recently moved here from St. Petersburg, live at 3800 Alhambra Ct. ★ ★ ★ Randolph Martin, 1314 Blue Rd., has been tapped by Emory University's Alpha Epsilon Upsilon, lower division honor society. Membership requirements are a 3.5 average at the end of the third quarter or a 3.5 after the fourth or fifth quarter. ★ ★ ★ Joseph Vessely, 395 Alcazar, who was admitted to Baptist Hospital Monday of last week because of a bad heart condition, is much better, but his family has no idea when he will be permitted to come home. ★ ★ ★ Sue Morrill, 15, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Morrill, 1699 Pizarro St., won the title of Miss Senior Majorette in competition last weekend at Silver Springs. She will represent Florida in the National Baton Twirling Association. ★ ★ ★ Carolyn Keefer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Keefer Jr., 4911 Alhambra Cir., was recently elected a member of May Court at Queens College, Charlotte, N.C. She was one of four freshmen elected to participate in the May Day festivities. Mrs. J. Martin Fishman is having a cocktail party Dec. 29 at her home, 1039 Hardee Rd., in honor of Elinor Rossin and her son Samuel E., who will be married Dec. 29 in Rossin's hometown, Tampa. A graduate of Indiana University, Miss Rossin is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Rossin, Tampa. Her fiance, a graduate of University of Miami, is assistant vice president and branch manager of J. I. Kislak Mortgage Co., Tampa. BUDDY BROWNE A Coral Gables High graduate, Alph H. (Buddy) Browne Jr., has been voted to Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities at Erskine College, Due West, S.C. Browne, a senior, is also president of the Student Christian Association at Erskine and was recently selected by the S.C. State Student Christian Association to serve as its president for 1962-63. He has been named to the Round Table, a 'student-faculty - administration committee that works to bring about better relations between different groups on campus and on solving campus problems, and to the Order of St. Andrew, men's leadership and service honorary. ★ ★ ★ Three sets of local parents were among the 10,000 who attended Parent's Weekend Nov. 10 at The Citadel, Charleston, S.C. The couples, who met after arriving at The Citadel, are Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Klich, 501 Zamora; Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Waters Jr., 3618 Riviera Ct.; and Mr. and Mrs. Kendrick D. Clifford, 4940 SW 83rd St. Their sons, all graduates of Coral Gables High School, and freshman cadets are William Russel Klich, Edwin (Ted) Waters, who has made the freshman basketball team, and Stephen Clifford, who has made the football team.
