12 THE GUIDE Thursday, October 12, 1961

THE FAMILY room at Granada Presbyterian Church has a specially-designed one-way mirror. You're not looking through the mirror but actually at a reflection of a group. If the lights were on inside the sanctuary you could see through this glass. Front row left to right are Mrs. Frank A. Mathes; Dr. Mathes; Mrs. Maurice Hart, former president of the church women. Back row are Mr. and Mrs. Hal Schuler. He's an elder and she's a former women's president.

This Staff Gives Help

An assistant minister who is six feet, four inches tall . . . a husband and wife who have been a custodian team for nine years — these are some of the people on the staff at Granada Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Claude I. Allen Jr. was recently named assistant minister to Dr. Frank Alfred Mathes. Two years ago, he was a student assistant. The 25-year-old Rev. Mr. Allen, who lives at 928 Bird Rd., put his height to good advantage when he played basketball for a YMCA team. He was graduated from the University of Florida (Gainesville is his home) and attended Columbia Theological Seminary for three years. His study ended in 1961. Church secretary for eight years is Mrs. J. P. Sickles. From Frederick, Md., she lives at 541 Esteban Ave. and has a 13-year-old daughter, Sylvia, who attends Ponce de Leon Junior High. Pastor's secretary is Mrs. Olive Terrill, 7880 SW 131st St. She has two grown children and three grandchildren. Harry Banthoover, who comes from Tarentun, Pa., now lives at 3325 SW 67th Ave., with his wife, Shirley, and their children, Harry, Jr. and Margie. He is the church custodian. The husband and wife team are Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Demerritte, who live in Richmond Heights. They've worked at Granada longer than anyone else now there.

Good Music, Good Decor

The interior decoration of the $500,000 sanctuary and offices of the pastor, assistant pastor and secretary were handled by Mildred Wolfe, a Miami decorator since 1940 who is director of Random House Interiors. There'll also be a new main organ and new Chancel Choir organ in the sanctuary. An echo organ will be in the balcony. These musical instruments are flexible, giving an organist complete selection and control according to Morgan Piano Co., which furnished the instruments.
