Into Honor Society Palmetto Inducts 22 Students

By EUNICE TOLL Correspondent Palmetto High School's year old National Honor Society has announced the names of the 22 new tappees, who were inducted Oct. 5 in a school assembly. They are Roberta Bigman, Tom Brown, Cathy Copley, Jane Cowan, Mary Dothard, Barbara Elliott, John Evans, Kathy Greenawalt, Gwen Grizzle. Lynn Haynes, Ralph Hutchins, Robert Lane, Diane Kay Lucas, Marlon Morton, James Thomas Owens, Claude Phills, Robin Shelley, Patricia Shull, Joan Ann Smith, Jane Sniffen, Dennis Stanley and Jeffrey Wright. Following the induction ceremonies, a reception for parents and members was given in the school library. Mrs. Lillian Tingler, former Palmetto PTA president, aided the National Honor Society reception committee. Under the direction of George Miller, president, National Honor Society members will study parliamentary procedure and practices this semester. Other officers are Bob Kiesau, vice president; Dellarae Black, secretary; Jan Wackenhut, treasurer; Linda Kiser, chaplin, and Suzanne Straight, historian. Mrs. Ann Polack and Mrs. Jemmie Batchellor are NHS co-sponsors. Future Teacher's Club is presently planning the second annual club luncheon for induction of new club members and officers. New officers for the year are Kay Cadman, president; Mimi Klein, vice president; Liz Walden, secretary; Pat Partney, treasurer; Claire Vonk, librarian; and Mary Alice Goetz, historian. New term officers of Palmetto's Art Club are Lynne Moody, president; Sue Gable, vice president; Teddie Howell, secretary; Judy Siegel, treasurer, and Bobbie Smith, historian.

Rudy Methodist Is Adding On

Bids for a second-story addition to the Rudy Memorial Methodist Church, Old Cutler Road and Martin Street, are being received. Classrooms and air conditioning are included in expansion plans.

JC's Fight 'Killer'

The largest phase of the South Miami Jaycees community immunization program will occur Saturday at the R. R. Morton Elementary School, 18050 Homestead Ave. An immunization clinic, free, will be open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. It is principally for pre-school age children in the Perrine area but is open to all. Tetanus is the third greatest killer of children among the preventable diseases in Dade County, according to Dr. R. M. Applebaum, project chairman.

College Night Date Wrong

Palmetto College Night will be held at Palmetto High School auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 6, not Oct. 6 as reported last week. Representatives from colleges and universities will participate in the second annual College Night open to students and parents seeking information about universities and colleges of interest to them.
