City Gives Fitzgerald Some More Time to Find Leaks
Trying to find a leak in a dry pipe ain't easy. For that reason Fitzgerald Engineering Co. has been given a year extension in locating and repairing leaks in the City's sanitary sewer system by the City Commission. A tremendous reduction of water leakage into the system through breaks has been achieved since the program began following authorization in 1959 for $30,000, according to City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. In Sept. 1960, the treatment plant recorded treating 4.25 million gallons, indicated severe leakage in the system. By this September the figure had dropped to 1.28 million gallons. During this time the water table average also fell from 5.5 feet to 1.5 feet. In October 1960, treatment had dropped to 3.42 million gallons. This compares to 1.5 million gallons in October of this year. During this period the water table average fell from four feet to 1.6 feet. Fitzgerald, who uses a remote television camera to find and repair the leaks, will resume the work in the fall of 1962.
Bookish Business
Coral Gables Library was doing a land office business the night of Nov. 11. Officer Donald C. Eckhert found the night deposit box overflowing when he made a routing check of the facility. He called a library employe and helped get approximately 200 books stacked up inside.
