News Of The PTA Panel, Dinner, Carnival Are On Week's Agenda
"Salute to the Team", the theme of the year, the Palmetto High School PTA will present a salute to the school, students, and parents next Thursday, 8 p.m., in the auditorium. The theme of the meeting will be "Salute to the Team". A panel of teachers will discuss the goals and methods of attaining these goals as outlined in the curriculum. The panel will also discuss the results of the extensive testing program at the school this year. Panel members are Mrs. Tyler, moderator for a question and answer period that will follow the discussion. Through presentation of color slides and charts, a pictorial progress of Palmetto High School will be shown during the discussion. Mrs. Dorothy Messler and Mr. Roger Carson, teachers, will show the slides. A report on the outlook for future education will be presented by the Pupil Population Committee. * * * The Palmetto PTA has at present 100 percent membership among teachers in the school and is still striving for 100 percent membership among the parents. South Miami Junior High For an excellent dinner and a night off, mothers, attend the South Miami Junior High annual roast beef dinner tonight with your families in the school cafeteria, 5 to 7:30 p.m. The menu will consist of mashed potatoes, cold slaw, a green vegetable, cake, pie, coffee and milk. Admission will be $1.50, adults; $1, children through junior high school. Mrs. M. R. Harndon, 7400 SW 68th Ct., is chairman. Proceeds will go for the ninth grade graduation party in June and to buy a school movie projector. Coral Way Elementary Fun is in store for everyone who attends the annual Coral Way Elementary School carnival today, 4 to 9 p.m., on the school grounds, 1950 SW 13th Ave. Enjoying the rides, games and fun booths while eating hamburgers, hot dogs and cotton candy will add to the carnival fun. This year the carnival is jointly sponsored by the school PTA and the Coral Way Elementary School Daddy's Club. Mrs. Robert Faircloth, PTA ways and means committee chairman, and Mr. Marvin Duncan, president of the Daddy's Club, are chairmen. The panel are Mrs. Lillian Ty-singer, Mrs. Margaret Dinn, Mr. A. Student Cyclist Smashes Leg In Crackup
An 18-year-old University of Miami student fractured a leg Sunday afternoon when his motor scooter skidded out of control on San Amaro Dr. and struck a tree stump. Murray Shore, a resident at San Sabastian residence hall, is reported in "good" condition at Doctors' Hospital. According to Gables Officer Charles Gouveia, the youth was making a left turn on San Amaro, hit some sand, skidded out of control and hit a stump at 4524 San Amaro. His leg was smashed between the scooter and the stump. Firemen E. T. McSwain and L. L. Lanway gave Shore emergency first aid before he was taken to the hospital.
City Manager Is Hospitalized
Coral Gables City Manager L. W. Robinson Jr. is expected to be out the remainder of the week following an attack of kidney stones Sunday. Robinson has been at Doctors' Hospital for observation. The city manager was stricken by the same ailment once before several years ago when he was director of public works. Finance Director Kenneth Allyn is acting city manager in Robinson's absence.
