Football Festival Set Saturday
The West Dade Boys' Club, 11300 SW 53rd Ter., an extension of the Boys' Club of Miami, a United Fund operation, will hold its first annual "Football Festival," Saturday, Nov. 12, from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The public is invited. The four teams which will play the same day are: West Dade Paper Weights vs. Miami Springs Youth Center; West Dade 95 pounders vs. Carrol City Recreation Department; and the West Dade 135 senior team vs. Opa Locka Youth Center. Both the senior and paper weight West Dade teams have been undefeated this year. Director and football coach is Terry Ward, assisted by Sonny McGraw, both ex-football Coral Gables High players.
Pioneer In Night Football
UM was one of the first teams to play night football in the USA. It happened in 1930. The foe was Southern College, the field was old Moore Park Stadium, then home gridiron of the Hurricanes. Later that same year, Miami played a nocturnal indoor game in the gigantic convention hall at Atlantic City, N. J., with Temple University as the opposition. Seldom do the Hurricanes play daylight football at home. This fall, all eight home games are booked under the lights.
Flagami Women Will Have Bazaar
Flagami Woman's Club members will hold a bazaar all day Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the City Recreation Hall, 7131 SW 3rd St. Mrs. Walter Sagesser is president of this club now in its tenth year of organization. It is federated with county, state and national women's clubs. The 30 members have their clubrooms in city hall. There will be Christmas cards and other items for sale and a food bar including sandwiches and coffee available for members and their friends.
Gabies Elkettes To See Fashions
A Luncheon and fashion show will be presented by the Coral Gables Elkettes at noon Saturday at the Miami Springs Villas. Mrs. Fred Gabriel, president, and Mrs. J. F. Pinder, chairman, will greet members and their guests. The party is open to the public. Mrs. Kirk Roberts, EM 1-2879, may be contacted for tickets. The Elkettes are a charitable organization not affiliated but coope [TEXT LOST] ve with the Coral Gables Elks Lodge. 1672.
Missionary Society To Hear Book Review
The Women's Missionary Society of the First Baptist Church of South Miami will hold a mission study project, Thursday, Nov. 10. A new mission study book, "Across the Bridge", will be reviewed by Mrs. Harry Reid. The program will begin at 10 a.m. It will be followed by a covered dish luncheon.
