Westchester kids bring Bicentennial to Gables oldsters

A group of Westchester area students has organized a plan to take a bit of the Bicentennial celebration to the residents of Coral Gables Convalescent Houe. Terry Adirim, 12, of 1721 SW 85th Ct., said Friday, April 30, that the six youngsters grouped together and went around their neighborhood collecting presents to take to the elderly residents. The students, who attend West Miami Junior High and Everglades Elementary, also plan to present Bicentennial entertainment and refreshments. They baked cupcakes, to serve with ice cream, and gathered hand lotion, combs and pocket packets of tissues to give as favors. Wearing blue jeans and red shirts, the students planned to visit the Home on Saturday, May 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. Those involved, Terry said, include her sister Joanne, 11, Paula Schwartzman, 12, her sister, Rhonda, 14, Stacy Sloan, 10, and Steve Miranda, 14. Stacy planned to supplement the singing and dancing with a baton exhibition and Rhonda and Steve scheduled clarinet performances.
