Insurance sales win trip for couple all about people

Insurance sales win trip for couple Mrs. Beatrice Wasser, 721 Sistina Ave., Coral Gables, became a "president" in order to take her husband Stan to the Queen's England. Mrs. Wasser, a Kansas City Life Insurance agent, qualified for the company's Presidents' Club — a real achievement — and she and Stan just returned from the trip to London that came with the honor. Proud professionals Business accolades for South Dade and Gables residents are being reported in great numbers — and we never hear too much good news, so send us more. This weeks' batch includes Joseph T. Coyle's appointment as director of Medical Center Communications at Jackson Memorial. Coyle, an experienced newspaperman lives at 1700 Douglas Rd., Coral Gables. Joseph Shaw has been appointed to the Board of Directors of the Sunshine State Bank . . . Shaw was South Miami's "Most Valuable Person" in 1967 and is the founder of Shaws Nursery on Red Road. W. Robert DeProspero (of the DeProspero Agency on Alhambra Circle) won the State Mutual Life Assurance Distinguished Agency of the Year award for 1975. Coral Gables Printing owner Brian Brodeur has been second vice-president of the Printing Industry of South Florida . . . the Philip J. Taylor and Associates advertising agency is winning many prizes for its AeroPeru ad campaign. Based on Miracle Mile the agency dreamed up a set of "mysterious journey" ads that appeared in major national magazines . . . and that, is in a spoken version, were recorded for staff by the late "Mr. Twilight Zone," Rod Serling. Travelers' tales Mr. and Mrs. Paul Hiller, 5905 Michel Angelo St., Coral Gables just took a five-day cruise to Port Au Prince, Haiti and Montego Bay, Jamaica. The Hillers set sail on the Costa line ship Italia which was chartered by Massachusetts Indemnity, the firm Hiller is with in Coral Gables. Banker praised Barnett Bank at Westchester President Carlos J. Arboleya is one of 76 Floridians receiving the Florida Patriot Award on May 7 in Tampa. Arboleya, a naturalized Cuban-American, is being honored for his contributions to the community and his work to make Florida a better place in which to live, according to the Florida Bicentennial report on the award. Academic accolades Coral Gables High grad Evelyn Babcock, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. I. Babcock of Alfonso Avenue, has been tapped for the Mortor Board national honorary society at Agnes Scott College in Georgia. Lynda Ridley, also a Gables grad, has won a $500 scholarship from the Florida Chapter of the National Home Fashion League to further her studies in interior design at Florida State. The Georgia Tech dean's list glows with local scholars: Calvin Babcock (Evelyn's brother, of Alfonso Ave.) Jose Gonzalez, son of Luis Gonzalez, Maynada; Lon Norris Pringle, son of Dr. J. C. Pringle, Catalonia; James Thompson, son of J.C. Thompson, Robbia and Fernando Zayas, son of F. A. Zayas, Barquera. And Gables resident J. J. Solis is on the Georgia Tech graduate list with a Master of Science in Industrial Management. Three Coral Park High grads have been honored with membership in Phi Alpha Theta, the University of Miami's history society. They are Kathleen M. Pagley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Pagley, SW 20th St., Judd Arnowitz, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Arnowitz, SW 88th Ave. and Andy Gomez, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andres Gomez, SW 71st. Ave. Anthony "Frank" Balzabre, son of Anthony and Dorothy Bizarre of Mendavia, is sparking the Babson College (Wellesley, Mass.) soccer team. A sophomore, Bizarre is the team's second leading scorer. Wheaton College's dean's list has a Gables name on it, too. William Mashburn, son of Dr. and Mrs. William Mashburn of Coral Gables, has been named to the list in his sophomore year. Medical moves William G. Donnellan, Jr., a Gables resident and UM Medical School graduate, has been accepted as a post-graduate intern at the University of Alabama in Birmingham.
