5 C. Park students to attend Boys State

Five Coral Park Senior High School students have been selected to attend the American Legion's annual Boys State Convention in Tallahassee in June under the auspices of Nan Sue Porter Post No. 156. Although the members of the Post, all female veterans who served in all wars beginning with World War I, had originally intended to select only two students, all of the five interviewed were assured the opportunity to attend. The Coral Park students sponsored by the post are Scott Tannenbaum of 2134 SW 98th Ave., and Harry Janawey of 1740 SW 93rd Ct. Ms. Marian Ellis, WAC veteran, offered to sponsor Jay Sandusky of 1221 SW 92nd Ave. Jose Garmendia of 9606 SW 20th Terr., will be sponsored by post member Audry R. Carlisle, and Robert Kogan of 1851 SW 86th Ave., will be sponsored by the Tamiami Kiwanis Club.

Chamber will honor 50 CG scholars

About 50 of Coral Gables High School's outstanding students will be honored by the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce at a Scholarship Achievement Luncheon Tuesday, May 11. The students, all in the top five per cent of the school's academic standings, will receive awards from Chamber President Margaret St. Germaine. The ceremony will be conducted by Business Education Committee Chairman Terry Jaramillo and the guest speaker will be James McLamore, co-founder and chairman of the board of Burger King. The luncheon, at noon in the Holiday Inn on LeJeune Road, will be sponsored by Chamber members.
